Low-income mums register for newborn monthly subsidy

BANGKOK: A total of 27,622 low-income mothers had so far registered for a Bt400 monthly subsidy for newborns, Government Spokesman Major-General Sansern Kaewkamnerd said yesterday.

He said that 702 people were from Bangkok and 26,920 from other provinces. Buri Ram province had the most number of mothers - 1,448 - seeking subsidy followed by Ubon Ratchathani (1,353) and Surin (1,271).

The registration will be held until March 31 next year to allow low-income families to get the subsidy, which will be given to infants born between October 1, 2015, to September 30, 2016, until they are one-year-old. It was previously expected that this Bt600 million-budget scheme would benefit a total of 135,768 infants throughout the one-year period.

These figures sort of confirm what we thought we knew about the "declining birthrate" Isaan is still churning them out, while Bangkokians cannot be bothered.

Yeah, free money!! Yahoo! More whiskey and somdam for the whole family!

And I thought only Europeans were soft enough to hand out tax payers money... (yes, I work here legally and pay taxes, too).

One of the reasons I left the EU was because I was sick and tired of politicians giving away our money. Now it's starting here, too.

They're handing out free money when they should be handing out CONTRACEPTIVES.

In my country if you're the paternal father you have responsibility. Passports, driving licenses, income taxes affected if support not received when ordered. Take away a Thais ID card can affect many things, these deadbeat dads should be helping to pony up.
