Ministry of Education investigates fire incident involved in college hazing ritual

BANGKOK, 3 December 2015 (NNT)-The Minister of Education has ordered an investigation into a video clip showing senior students using fire on freshmen during college initiation.

According to Education Minister General Dapong Rattanasuwan, it has been revealed that the hazing ritual was carried out at one private vocational college.

The Minister has ordered Education officials to prove if the fire was really used during the freshmen initiation. General Dapong cited the need to prevent any forms of violence during such an activity. He said institution executives must observe the initiation process by themselves instead of just giving orders.

President of the Association of Private Technological and Vocational Colleges of Thailand Jompong Mongkolvanich said his association would also investigate and find out whether the initiation was inspired by the ideas of college alumni or being held without the college’s supervision.

It is expected that a list of individuals involved in the event will be revealed within one week. They will be prosecuted if they are found to have violated the laws.

BANGKOK: -- The director of Bangkok’s Siam Technological College admitted the students in the viral photos and videos of freshmen hazing at the beach may belong to his school.

Director Jompong Mongkolwanich said in a meeting between vocational colleges in Bangkok yesterday he suspected his students were the boys captured on video taking part in the violent “rub nong” rituals, which has gone viral on Facebook.

The controversial photos and video, which were heavily criticized, show about 10 shirtless teenage boys engaged in a series of humiliating activities, including them transferring food between each other's mouths and a boy having flames sprayed on his butt for the amusement for their seniors.

Jompong said if the ongoing investigation proves his students are the young men in the video, they will be punished, especially the seniors, who may face expulsion.

Um.... shouldn't this be a police matter?

Yes, a police matter and the directors of these colleges should resign in disgrace ( failing that, be sacked). They have been on notice for months and their failure should not go unpunished.
