WhizBang
Why should (what should be) a major transport center have to close? Perhaps the organizers should have chosen a better route, one that did NOT impact mass transit centers. But then that would have required some serious forethought, something Thailand is NOT known for.
taony
Incredible. "Major" "modern" city that can't even handle one event.
Misterwhisper
Why would anyone close down a crucially important public transport node for a bicycling event - and on a day when throngs of people are going to leave town for the provinces due to the long weekend? Are the participants cycling through the train station?

lemonjelly
Give 4 days warning that Hua Lampong will close for a day, classic. Autocorrect suggested Hua Lampooned, possibly more appropriate.

alt
We're due to leave Thon Buri station to Kanchanaburi that morning. I know different lines in different parts of the city, but wondering if it'll have any effect? Really don't want to be told that our train is sold out when we arrive. NongKhaiKid
Does anyone know if Friday is to be an official holiday or is it ' discretionary ' which will result in confusion ? It's a simple decision yet the junta seem incapable of making it. The owner of a restaurant i use had his wife call the local police and municipal authorities so he knew if it was worthwhile to open, sell grog etc and no one could answer as they didn't know ! kingalfred
So Comical. The whole economy brought to a standstill for a bike ride in a city that does nothing to reduce traffic and encourage bikes or other form transport 364 days a year. taony
Because other cities never close down parts of their infrastructure for major events? Mindless Thaibashing at its best. Well done chaps. You're funny. If new york closed down every time there was a parade we'd have more holidays than Thailand. And bike rides with tens if thousands of people ? We got those too. Longer than this ride even. And we got actual marathons where you run a full course and not four laps around a park or ones that start at midnight. And for each and every event, you would never know is going on unless you were right there. No need for this back and forth nonsense, about whether its a public holiday or shutting down public transport which you need even MORE on days like this. This is just a sorry case of poor infrastructure, morons in government and a cult.

I know different lines in different parts of the city, but wondering if it'll have any effect? Really don't want to be told that our train is sold out when we arrive.Thonburi is miles away from Hualampong. I don't see why the Kanchanaburi service would not be running and no, it will not be sold out. The train is all 3rd class so they can cram as many people as need be inside. Enjoy your trip!
