Messed up, need Visa, any suggestions?

Featured Replies

So first off, I'm an idiot who didn't check the this board before going to Laos, because "I've done this before, I know the drill". As you may have guessed, I've just found out the Thai Counsel is closed until Monday. I don't have the words for how mad I am at myself right now.

My problem is

1). My Thai visa expires Tuesday the 8th so I need a new one

2). I only have a hotel room until Thursday the 10th and my hotel is full and this is tourist season

Is there ANY way for me to get a visa in that time?

Or are my only options to

1) Try to find a room and stick around until next week and re-buy a plane ticket home

2). Go back to Thailand and get 30 days at the airport, come back in January and try again

I'd be so grateful for any advice or suggestions, because right now I'm so upset I can't think straight.

Easy fix would be to come back and get the 30 day exemption, if you've not had many before should be no issue. Don't forget you can now extend for a further 30 days :)

Treat it as a lesson learned, check more carefully next time.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

You could get on a bus or airplane from Vientiane To Savannakhet where the consulate is open tomorrow and Wednesday. Not sure about Friday though. But they processed visas last week on the same day because of an unpublished closure.

Or return and get a 30 day visa exempt entry that you can extend for 30 days at an immigration office for a fee of 1900 baht.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I've had a nights sleep and breakfast and a chance to calm down. I'm going to chalk this up as a learning experience and move on, maybe try to have a mini vacation for the next few days. Feel free to use me as an example to others on why you should always double check dates ;)

You've got the right attitude. Mature, positive, objective, and non-defensive. 90% of the battle already won. You'll be fine.

  1. WHERE are you?
  2. What Nationality are you ?

Always check the official national holiday lists (Google) for both Thailand and the country in which you will be applying for your visa. The Thai embassy in the foreign country will be closed for both the Thai and the local foreign country holidays.

Sir, Heed ubonjoe.

A fellow idiot. Me, not ubonjoe.

Actually we're stupid, not idiots.
