The age limit for children to get an extension as your dependent is 20 years old unless the child has disabilities that makes them unable to care for themselves.

Adult child?

They are either a child or an adult.

In Thailand a child becomes an adult at 20 and no longer a dependant.

That was my first thought when reading the heading too, but if you have a child , s/he remains your child no matter how old s/he is. Most people probably wouldn't refer to a 20 or 40 year old, for example, as your child, but still technically correct.

child
CHīld/
noun
  1. -- a young human being below the age of puberty or below the legal age of majority.
synonyms: youngster, little one, boy, girl; More
--- a son or daughter of any age

One thing for sure: a son will always be a son, a daughter will always be a daughter.

A person can be an adult and still be your child.

consider this, You leave in Thailand and you have children who are not Thai citizens, So what happens when they become 20 years old?

Do they need to leave the country?start earning and saving the amounts necessary for extended stay? get married to a Thai national and.........start jumping through hoops, visa runs?

I am sure there must be a mechanism to address such situation.

Once children reach the age of 20 they have to start getting there own visas and extensions of stay. If still attending school they could get extension for that.

My reply was specific to the OP's question regarding Immigration Policy.

Of course your offspring will always be your child, but under various laws they become an adult at a certain time.

They are no longer regarded as children once they reach the age of self dependency by many authorities and become responsible for their own actions.

Purely in relation to the OP's question, a child is considered no longer dependant on his parents at the age of 20 and is treated as an adult under the Immigration laws of Thailand. They can no longer 'piggyback' on parents Extensions of stay and must attain a Visa to stay in Thailand under there own identity.

No, plus there's no reason for a 20yr old to be here. Unless he's going to college. He definitely won't be working here.

If he wants to come for a visit, well he can just get a tourist visa or if applicable a visa exempt.

Nope!

Your Son is your Son,

Until he takes a Wife.

But your Daughter is your Daughter,

The rest of your Life.

Alowe me to respectfully disagree there could be many reasons a 20 year old child (child:son or daughter)

A parent working and living here could have his or hers child living with him or her. What does such a parent do when the child turns 20 and does not want to go to school or can not work???
