Woman to face arson charge after a failed burglary

BANGKOK: -- A 36-year-old woman was rescued from a stationary shop fire which she lighted after stealing cash donation but was unable to come out.

The burglar was identified as Ms Supaktraporn Wongsuwan.

According to Thong Lor station police, manager of the state-owned Sueksaphan stationary shop inside the compound of the National Science Centre for Education in Ekkamai area alerted firemen after a guard of the centre reported fire inside the locked shop at 9 pm.

Eight fire trucks arrived shortly afterwards and kept the fire under control 15 minutes later.

A search in the shop found a fainted woman inside.

Questioning the manager later revealed she is not a staff of the shop.

The woman regained consciousness shortly later and admitted that she entered the shop since 4 pm in order to steal cash from donation box. She hid herself in the first floor and waited until the shop closed and the guard left at 6 pm.

She broke open the donation box, took all the money and then walked towards them cut in order to escape. But she couldn’t as the guard had locked the door.

She said she decided to start a fire by burning the computer mount pad with hope that somebody would see the fire and came in to extinguish it so she could take this opportunity to escape.

But the fire raged quickly that she couldn’t control it.

Police will charge her for arson in addition to burglary.

BANGKOK: -- A woman has been arrested by Thonglor police after hiding in a stationery shop, burglarising it and trying to escape by setting a fire inside the shop.

The woman was not a Suksapan Panit employee, its manager Pavit Pangwiwat said.

The shop is located at the two-storey Planetarium on Sukhumvit Road in Klong Toei and was closed at the time because of the national holiday.

Pavit returned to work on Wednesday to check the shop's electronic system and was informed about the fire by the shop's security guard

Supuktrapon Wongsuwan, 36, was then found choking on smoke inside the shop and rescued.

Supuktrapon confessed to multiple other thefts, including stealing donation boxes at Wat Suan, Vejthani Hospital and The Mall department store. She said she needed the money to care of her children.

The fire was started on the second floor and was extinguished in about 10 minutes by eight firefighters.

The chief of Metropolitan Police Division 5, Maj-General Somprasong Yentuam, told a press conference that Supuktrapon hid in the shop's storage room on the first floor.

When the shop closed she stole money from the donation box but could not get out so she started the fire by burning a mouse pad with a lighter, he said.

Police said she committed similar crimes on November 23 after being released from prison for burglary about seven months ago.

she will burn through her savings now

A woman with man's forearms. more to this than meets the eye? She should be treated leniently as long as she hasn't used the like button on her facebook account this week

Actually it was not the manager of the shop who called the fire brigade as he was not even there, the place was all locked up! it was a fireman/rescue worker and his friends that first called the fire brigade! They were parked next to the building and saw the initial small flames coming out. They used the fire rescue radio to alert fire-responders and they themselves were first on scene to help the only open shop evacuate and save supplies from it. The manager turned up 30 minutes to an hour later to open the shop roller doors and let the woman out. She is lucky she did not succumb to the smoke.

i bet she/he had a great time in the womens prison, works out a lot then ??clap2.gif

Not native English speaker I would suggest.

The standard of English in this article is a lot worse than usual and that is saying a lot.

It says a lot without saying much at all, just confirming a known fact.

what an idiot lighting a fire in the hope of someone seeing it she could have burned to death I think she was very lucky that someone did see it .
