Sea Snails

Recommended Posts

Yesterday on the beach at Bang Por i found a lot of large sea snails which had been washed up and stranded by the tide. They appeared to be alive so i collected several dozen of them and threw them back into the water. Does anyone know if these are edible like Whelks, Winkles etc .

"Only a few are edible. Some types of whelk are toxic to humans or become toxic depending on what they have eaten"

Check if they sell them in seafood markets like Banrak or Hua Thanon.

Some, cone snails can be deadly. Especially if handled while alive. They have a poison dart.

Yes , coming from Queensland i know all about these. If handled they shoot out a venomous spike which injects a poison capable of killing a human being, quite frightening to see kids and tourists picking these pretty little cone shells up.
