BANGKOK — As shoppers capitalize on the efficiency of the digital age, traditional transactions are dying.

Merchants and traders are giving way to iPhones and e-shops, even street food and taxis are just a few swipes away. But there’s a certain fascination with doing business the old fashioned way, and in a small alley at Chatuchak Weekend market, the vintage watch trading industry defies the odds to go against the trend of modernization.

“Watches are different than anything else. You need to be able to see every single detail and examine it. You need to love it. You come here to do that,” says Tongchai, who goes by the moniker Dr. Air Watch.

Same here. There is something about recognizing time, space, and relationships in the hands on a dial that say more than an LED readout. I think the way it relates to our mind is real.

Call me old fashioned, but I really don't care for digital watches. Everything else? Fine. But not my watch. lol

I have an Omega Constellation chronometer, bought in Singapore on New Year's Day, 1965, so 50 years old. I wear it every day and its only failure in all the years is that the automatic winding does not work too well, so I give it a wind every morning. I much prefer it to my Seiko digital, which, at only 20 years old had to go nack to Seiko for a complete rebuild.
