Sorry I didn't specify.

Just want to check for parasites and Giardia...

Local clinic as I am in the middle of nowhere. I live in a village pretty much.

You'll need pathology tests and stool samples and so you'll be up for 1000THB or more for the Pathology.

To be honest, it's much easier to take the two giardia tablets and you're done.

silly post - a fraction of what a western doctor costs....

you are not going to go b/c it's 250-300B to see the doctor?

If you have a medical problem then you will pay for lab tests, treatments medicine but still ridiculously cheap in relative terms to the west...

Don't sweat it....

Here on Koh Samui the government hospital is very reasonable . I have a friend who is a regular customer and his medication and doctors charge are less than a 1,000 baht . When I have taken him I have placed my arm in a diagnostic machine that takes your blood , heart and pulse readings it costs nothing and you get a print out. If I were to go to one of the many private hospitals I know the free reading I do would cost me several hundred baht if not more !

Government hospital is the way to go.

There are clinics around, but with limited equipment, so they may well refer you to the hospital.

Once you have registered for the first time at the Government hospital, should you need to go there again for another reason, all your records will be on file, saving the hassle of giving all your details over again.

It will cost no more than 200 baht for the consultation with a doctor at a government hospital, make sure you go to the hospital and not a small clinic, AND, don't accept any medication or diagnosis unless you've actually been tested beforehand - expect the tests to cost up to 800 baht.

Local clinic as I am in the middle of nowhere. I live in a village pretty much.

I lived here for 12 years. First time I got sick; I went to Bangkok Medical Hospital. 3-4,000 bt. After that I met a girl, bought a house; and she told me to use local small Thai hospitals. I did that for 10 years. Now divorced, lost half the house ( 1/2 of 8 million ). Wish I had kept going to Bangkok Medical Hospital. I would have saved about 4 million baht. Good luck !

If you have a tabien baan then your local hospital doctor (govt.) is free but you must expect to pay for medicines, blood tests, operations etc.

It must be a blue tambien baan, not a yellow one.

I get free treatment on a yellow book , I was given a hospital number as well.

Don't know much about government hospitals in Thailand.

Live in Bangkok and go to Bumrungrad and have been to Bangkok Hospital.

Both are excellent.

Doctor's cost is about 500 Bhat but tests can get expensive.

If you are a farang and you get free treatment on the basis of a yellow book alone, you must live in the back of beyond, cut off from all communication with the outside world and be the only farang in the history of Thailand who can do that! Getting a hospital number is no big deal, everyone gets one of those.

Government hospital = ฿50 plus medicines.

My last visit, doctor: 30 baht, 3 steroid nebulizers, 1 steroid injection and medication to take home,

Grand total 123 baht.

Bear in mind, it is the same medication that would have been administered at a RAM or Bangkok hospital.

A bit of a longer wait, (assuming it is not too urgent), and a bit more of a language barrier, but if you can overcome that problem, far, far cheaper.

I totally agree with you. I have a bladder problem. Went to Bumrungrad 3 years ago with the problem . Supposed to be best urologist in thailand. after 2 years of just getting worse the doctor claimed he could do nothing for me gave me my medical records and told me to find another doctor.and hospital. I went to Srinakarin and was hospitalised for 2 weeks was given antibiotics by needle 3 times a day had blood tests done daily. When I left the cost for 2 weeks in hospital plus meds for 3 months and cathater all for 18,000 baht. They make an appointment for me every 3 months to check progress. Now when i go back they look up my medical record and have everything they have done on record.

That's super bad advice, protozoa can only be seen with a microscope!

What are blue and yellow tambien bean's?

A Tabien Bahn is a book that shows ownership of property, a blue one is for locals whilst a yellow one is for farangs.

Yellow book just shows where you live,as we all know you can't own land.

I don't know what it shows for other people but in my case it shows that I have an interest in a property, my name is on the back of the chanotte as being in control of an usufruct. I would not have been able to get a yellow book with out it, according to Land Office in Mae Rim and also the village headman where I live.
