Which is the MOST relaxed, easiest, land border?

Featured Replies

Hello there,

I know this answer changes from time to time. But currently, what is the easiest, most relaxed land border to cross into Thailand?

I have an old Italian passport (2006, expires in about 10 months). I haven't traveled with this passport in years, and have no recent stamps, and no visas in it. I want to exit Thailand with my US passport (which I've been using for travel) and come back into Thailand with my Italian one. My Italian passport also has a rare misprint in which some of the colors are off, and I've been harassed for this before.

What land border should I cross to have the easiest, most relaxed, laid back time, where the border guards just stamp you and wave you off? Cambodia? Laos? I want to avoid scrutiny, and questions. Just show my plane ticket departing Thailand within 30 days, get my entry card / stamp, no muss no fuss, no questions, no problems.

Really appreciate your help!

you can not change passports at land crossings, have to be done by air. they check for exit stamps from ajoining country

Ok...I understand now...he cannot enter Laos on new pp if he exited on old one..

If i understood OP's intent he just wants little hassle because of the faded old Italian passport.

I just want to know why not continue to us US pp ? What are you hiding from ?

The only means of achieving what you want to do is to fly out of Thailand using the US passport and to return using the Italian passport.

There is scrutiny at all land borders with recent problems in Thailand, it is not like "The good old days."

Expect the best but be prepared for the worst. Nothing is what it appears to be in Thailand.

Ahh, thank you so much for the replies!

I'm not hiding from anything. I'm just trying to avoid hassles over the next 2 weeks.

So if the only way to achieve this is to fly into Thailand, then what is the most relaxed, low-budget, backwater airport where they don't check anything but a cursory glance at your passport? Or is the real question that I would probably arrive at Thailand's DMK (Don Mueang) airport and deal with scrutiny there?

Thanks so much!

You must come any internation airport

If name in passport same. not any problem.

you can go to HK for example. Lowcost airline 2500-5000 b go come.

no need get out from airport hk. Just arive and same day go.

or Singapure.

If have litle different name better go to HK, after from HK airport ferry to Macao entry in Macao change passport and come back to Thailand.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

If the problem is having too many consecutive 30-day stamps in your U.S. passport, this might work. The might still match your name/DOB in the computer, so it's not certain. Not sure it could help in a different situation.

As for the most relaxed crossing, I think any airport would do.

Nong Khai / Laos border

Nong Khai / Laos border

It does not matter which border crossing he uses. He will not be allowed to do a passport swap at any crossing.

I can think of a few small crossings that are better than Nong Khai.

I think the entire point of border crossings is exactly to scrutinize - it might be more dependent on the luck of the draw as to how attentive the individual agent is at a crossing… the easy way is to just abide by laws and then you don't have the added worry… for most, life is tough enough as it is…

you MUST fly in and out if u want switch passport,

flight to PP is less than $$140 r/t

Have to fly out and then return.

I also have dual citizenship and I don't believe for one minute that if for example the OP has too many consecutive 30 day stamps in his US passport that Thai immigration would take this into account in any way to determine his eligibility to enter Thailand if he was using his second passport to enter because each citizenship is absolute.
