Retirement Visa

A couple of days ago a friend went to renew his retirement visa for the umpteenth time.

He has always renewed his visa based on K800+ in the bank.

Since his UK pension kicked in six months ago, he decided this time to

take in the pension papers despite the fact he had a lot more than the

required K800 in his local bank. (Don't know why he did this !)

On seeing the pension papers the officer asked for the Embassy letter

which he did not have, he only had the bank confirmation letter which he

drew to the attention of the the officer.

The officer then told him that he did not have any problems but would need

to get the letter from his Embassy confirming his pension.

Just goes to show that more is not always better. And you just have to wonder

where the immigration officer was coming from.

By the way, he did not have a Med. cert. and was not asked for one.

Good to know. I always felt embarassed about my rubber stamped medical certificate when I walked into Immigration drunk, with my gonads in a wheelbarrow..........

This has been a requirement for many years when using any type of money from abroad. My personal knowledge of this form goes back to 1994.

Terry; NO embassy letter is needed for the 800k in account extension. You are thinking about the CFCT, certificate of foreign currency transaction (called TT3 before). Cheers!

The requirement for a certification letter for his pension from the Embassy has been around for several years. But the no medical certificate just happened

I assumed he was going to try to use the pension in lieu of the 800k because he took his pension letter with him. I misunderstood.

I think he probably confused the issue by showing the immigration officer the pension papers. Probably let the officer to believe that he wanted to extend on the basis of his pension, in which case the embassy letter would be needed.

That's correct Sophon.

The pension papers were excess to requirements, so he should not have taken them with him.

However he did, and the immigration officer then wanted the embassy letter to go along with

them ( even if they were not required as his application was for a retirement extension

based on K800 deposit).

Anyway he went back the next day with an embassy pension letter and was served by a different

officer who said 'You dont need embassy letter for this visa , you have K800 in bank'
