Russia unveils plan to try to prevent young people from joining ISIL

"Young people feel disappointed and there is kind of a deceptive romanticism that appeals, that a fight between the good and the evil is going on."

MOSCOW: -- Russia has put into place a plan to try to prevent its young citizens from being recruited by radical organisations such as ISIL.

The Civic Chamber’s “Resistance to the Islamic State Recruiters” project has published a brochure to help adults recognise when young people are being targeted for enlistment.

“We noticed that there have been many new converts recently. Former atheists, mostly. Young people feel disappointed and there is kind of a deceptive romanticism that appeals, that a fight between good and evil is going on… But it (the anti-ISIL brochure) shows that in reality it’s a business,” said Yelena Sutormina, one of the authors of the brochure.

The Islamists rely heavily on social media and other modern means to entice young people.

Recruitment to ISIL is now also becoming a problem for central Russia, according to the Civic Chamber.

Previously, regions with a predominantly Muslim population, such as the North Caucasus, had been the group’s main focus.

In an Associated Press report published in November, 2015, indigenous Muslims living in the Russian Federation said their families suffer sustained harassment from the authorities, who are wary of insurgents.

If they want to join ISIS they are already traitors. Take them out of the airport and shoot the bastards.

Make them martyrs and you will only encourage the recruiting. One of the reasons why the Chechnyan insurrection grew was because the Russians were incredibly brutal in their repression of the Chechnyans. Keep in mind that muslims are discriminated against when they move out of their regions looking for employment opportunities. They also claim they are discriminated against when seeking government employment, regional development funding and educational opportunities. When people are denied opportunity or hope, they say screw it, there is nothing left to lose. Russia has a ticking time bomb on its hands and there is no easy solution.

I believe the same reasons hold true in Syria. Poor treatment by their government has driven many over to IS. Could say the same about most of the countries where these IS recruits are coming from. Algeria, LIbya, Syria, Egypt, etc....as I've posted in other threads, this is an interesting argument as to why there are problems in the ME.

A number of Islamist terrorist groups originally stated their number one target is the corrupt Arab dictatorships, including the established theocracies who corruptly use alms collected at the mosques, rather than helping the poor. I recall reading a book written by a well respected Palestinian economist (World Bank?) who also highlighted this issue some years back. However, these people will follow the pathway from being 'oppressed' to being the oppressor, so as usual BS baffles brains.

But than do not complain anymore if ISIS is beheading people. Because than you are exactly the same as them.

Finally, a good report coming out of Russia on something positive they are trying to do.

They and Assad are the only one fighting the ISIS.

What has the Prayut regime put into place to try to prevent its young Malay-Thai citizens in the South from being recruited by radical organisations such as ISIL?

2015-12-08

It has set up a committee to expedite problem solving in the south, creating clear results, through the cooperation of soldiers, police and the local people.

The government has already created a network of over 30,000 residents and is preparing to support them in becoming a family with good morals. Members of the extended family are encouraged not to use drugs, to help the public, and not create problems for society.

However can ISIL or any of the five current Malay-Thai insurgent groups overcome such amitious plans? I'd say quite easily if it bothered.
