A British national wanted in Thailand for the 2004 murder of his then-girlfriend on the resort island of Phuket is currently residing in Sihanoukville, though Cambodian authorities are not presently seeking his arrest, police officials said yesterday.

Seng Saroeun, deputy chief of provincial immigration police in Preah Sihanouk province, said yesterday that Michael Taylor – who had been jailed in Thailand over the stabbing death of his girlfriend Jantra Weangta, but reportedly left the country while free on bail – was living on the Cambodian coast.

“This man has been staying in Cambodia now. He is staying in Preah Sihanouk province,” Saroeun said in an interview yesterday. “He worked as a businessman at a resort.”

How can someone possibly be free on bail after stabbing their girlfriend to death ? Only in Thailand !

Although it appears likely he is guilty. He was granted bail. On the 'western' presumption of innocence. But no doubt, whatever the outcome, you just want to bash Thailand. And you've done it, feel better now?

If this is true, some bright young copper from one of 5he ASEAN will soon step in and do his career a favour. Unless of course, no such person exists, which I doubt in such a shark tank. Otherwise take it with a huge grain of daily mail salt.

Any system which has been copied but is worse than the original deserves to be bashed.

Fair point, now tell me how this in any way differs from the many cases of people skipping bail through beuaraucratic incompetence, anywhere?

It differs by the simple fact that this is a case of murder, and in most countries those on trial for murder are considered a flight risk and therefore denied bail, however in Thailand, everyone is given bail as a matter of right unless they are likely to receive the death sentence or have been charged with lese majeste, and as a result we see a lot of dangerous criminals skipping bail in Thailand. I am sure you can appreciate that denying people bail for insulting the Kings dog but giving bail to murders does actually differ to other countries.

Erm Cambodia actually, please reread

Erm, maybe YOU should re-read.

He was arrested in Thailand, freed on bail, then jumped bail to Cambodia.

But thanks for your contribution...

None sense that was a reasonable post, I am constantly amazed at the number of self confessed murderers and criminals who are let out on bail and then skip the country.
