Friends.....

Featured Replies

Been in Thailand on and off for 9 months - but now have job and will be in Chiang Mai probably for the next two years.Love it here, but it seems relatively difficult to meet friends compared to other places I've been. How did you meet the friends you have made here? It seems that most of you are in Bangkok - anyone in Chiang Mai?

Hi there. :o

There are loads of us girls in Chiang Mai. It just depends on what kind of friends you're looking to make and what you like to do. What kind of job have you got up here? PM me or post your questions here (or in the CM forum). Chiang Mai's a pretty laid back place. It's not too hard to make friends if you know what you're looking for.

Good luck! :D

Cheers,

TT

Hi,

Thanks for the welcome.

Sorry, bit of a forum novice and havent quite worked out how to pm etc yet!

Anyway - I guess Im just looking for open - minded friendly people, who like to go out now and then - eating, the odd drink, film - but mostly people who like talking about stuff - I don't need to have friends of the same age ( Im 34 ) or with the same interests as long as they have something to say - I like meeting people from all walks of life.

I think the reason I perceived it as a little difficult to meet people was that there are lots of people only in Chiang Mai for a very short period of time and I cant always tell them from the long termers - plus I sometimes get the impression ( I could be wrong ) that people who have been here a while kind of have their social circle / situation set up. Since Im going to be here a reasonably long time I don't want to be Billy No Mates for the duration ! :D

I ( like lots of people in CM I think! ) am in teaching EFL, thought I would meet quite a few people through work but there arent that many people working there.

Anyway, thanks again for the welcome - any advice greatly appreciated.

Now that would be telling! Plus not giving details makes it sound much more interesting than it probably is!

Now that you mention it, people generally do have their social circle set up. But that's the same everywhere, really. Girls I know here have made friends taking Thai classes, doing yoga, going to the gym... things like that. Oddly enough, it seems to me that getting a Thai boyfriend is one of the easiest ways to meet other foreign women. I don't think I know any girls living in Chiang Mai who came here single and don't have (or had) a Thai boyfriend. Hmmm...

Anyway, find some hobbies, take some courses, you'll be set in no time. :D
