Bar Refaeli questioned for 12 hours over tax evasion claims

TEL AVIV: -- Supermodel Bar Refaeli is under investigation in Israel over claims that she dodged local taxes on earnings from her high-flying career.

Refaeli, former girlfriend of Leonardo di Caprio, is suspected of failing to report perks and income amounting to millions of shekels.

Among the claims are allegations that she did not pay rent on her apartment in Tel Aviv, received a car from a company in return for publicity as well as paying her interior designer by doing publicity for his business.

Tax authorities claim she tried to hide the fact that she was a resident of Israel by living in an apartment rented by her family.

The model, who was questioned for 12 hours by officials, has denied all the allegations.

I don't know their tax law but it seems living in someones apartment rent free wouldn't be considered income. Receiving a gift in the amount of your rent might be. Clearly receiving a car as payment for services in lieu of cash would be. Governments hate it when people barter service for service [the designer]. It does seem however the powers that be are slinging mud at the wall to see what sticks. Is it her 'draft dodging', is she opening her mouth politically?

Well euh, perhaps she's a model, but she isn't a model for Israeli citizenship : she avoided military service... Edited by Thorgal

That would make her a role model for a lot of people all over the world.

Cracks are beginning to appear in the foundation.

When celebrities become draft dodgers and tax evaders it bodes ill for national morale.

Look at America during the Vietnam War.

Gone are the days when the Zionist plans for Eretz Israel were promoted by Hollywood stars reenacting the silly fables of the Jews.

A piece of advice, lass... change the name.

Bar Refaeli sounds like a sleazy dive in San Remo.

You really think she, a world famous model, needs advice from you, who?

Casting Bar Refaeli as a rebel? cheesy.gif

She evaded draft because it suited her career, and said as much. All on record. Later on, when public criticism became a career hindrance, she took some PR advice and tried to mend things some. As with many beautiful, rich and successful people, some like her and some don't. The investigation is not "politically" motivated, don't think this was seriously claimed by anyone.

Seems like she simply went outside the norm of what's "acceptable" for undeclared profits for these kinda careers. Someone decided to have a closer look, as happens with celebrities, and declarations didn't match to reality. Must be many others doing the same, just not as famous locally. Her new hubby can't be happy with this kind of attention though, might rub on his own business affairs.
