US and Russia get differing results in the air over Syria

"We still have a fight ahead of us. Mosul is different to Ramadi, it's a big, big, big city"

LONDON: -- The US is claiming its airstrikes in Syria and Iraq have killed 10 mid-level ISIL leaders in the past month, notably a French national implicated in the Paris attacks.

He has been named as Charaffe al-Mouadan, and was allegedly killed on Christmas Eve.

Also named was, according to the US, a UK-educated leading ISIL hacker, Siful Haque Sujan from Bangladesh.

With the Iraqi army now being more effective on the ground in Iraq, retaking Ramadi on Monday, ISIL is being squeezed from all directions.

“I think it’s really important to keep in mind that we still have a fight ahead of us. Mosul is different than Ramadi, it’s a big, big, big city and it’s going to take a lot of effort, it’s going to take more training, it’s going to take more equipment and it’s going to take patience,” said Col. Steve Warren, US army.

Social media sites have received pictures allegedly from Aleppo, Damascus and Homs showing Syrian or Russian barrel bombing of residential areas.

Several NGOs say civilian deaths have sharply risen since the Russians began their air war, and their criticisms were amplified by the US State Department on Monday.

Indeed, some have claimed Russian planes are now killing more civilians per week than ISIL. Others maintain that Russia is bombing regime opponents of Bashar al-Assad far more intensively than known jihadi strongholds of ISIL.

Hitler wanted peace in Europe - stupid Chamberlain believed - and this is why he started a war with Poland......and Putin wants peace in Russia and this is why he makes hell in Syria (?)

does that mean it's bigger than Ramadi? Like, as opposed to small, small, small?

...just trying to talk the talk... thumbsup.gif

Russia was forced toenter the war and shore up the Baathest (secular) regime in that country because the the US, turkey, and the gulf states are trying to get the Syrian government overthrown so they can build a pipeline through Syria and ruin Russia's economy.. and they are willing to support alqueda or whoever to achieve this end.. they have failed and in about a decade they will even lose iraq as a partner when they can no longer bribe the iraqis regime to fight for their agenda.

Nice try, but the US has no interest in whether a pipeline is built through Syria or not. It would not help the US one bit.

Even if Assad is overthrown, there is no guarantee that a new leader would allow a pipeline.

Nice try but the US wants a pipeline to weaken Russia, it's part of the neocon strategic plan…it wants exports of gas to go from Qatar to Europe through Syria, instead of EU being so reliant on Russian gas…the plan includes fomenting civil wars in places like Ukraine and building bases up to Russian borders. This is a long game, and make no mistake, the ultimate aim of these idiot nut-jobs is to defeat Russia militarily…

Wow, what a conspiracy. cheesy.gif

This is a war. In war people get killed. The US version of just going after a few is wrong. War is not a picnic, either you go after the other side, or stop. I don't know if I'm saying this right, but war is suppose to be bad, that is why you don't want it.
