Myanmar Airways plans no change in Yangon-Bangkok route

YANGON -- Myanmar Airways International (MAI) has no plan to reduce the number of flights between Yangon and Bangkok despite anger at home against the conviction of two Myanmar migrant workers in Thailand.

The airline now operates two direct flights in the route.

Aye Marya Tha, assistant general manager of MAI, said there was no plan to reduce or withdraw the schedules.

"We have no plan to stop our flights due to the Koh Tao verdict," said Aye Marya Tha.

In Myanmar, people in major cities, including Tachileik, near the border with Thailand, staged protests demanding the release of two Myanmar migrants who face the death penalty for killing two British tourists on Koh Tao in Surat Thani. Myanmar nationals in Japan and Malaysia also staged protests.

On December 24, the Koh Samui District court had given the death sentence to the two migrants.

The Thai Embassy in Yangon's consular section was closed during December 28 to 30, as hundreds of protesters staged a protest near the embassy.

Be nice if they got headline to match story. At first I thought they might be taking detour through Philippines. They were talking frequency not route. Duh
