Bredbury Blue
I'm from a family of anglers. Granddad was super keen. My 85yr old dad fishes alternate days on his fishing club waters (river) during the summer and was in to match fishing, brothers fish. I never took to it - though I did win 6 shillings in a fishing competition when about 6 yrs old - I always preferred watching the (feathered) birds. My kids (not quite teenagers) took an interest in fishing, having a few hours in a dinghy of Trat with a hotel staff member who was kind enough to take them out. They caught one sea bass in two hours, loved it and enjoyed eating their catch in the hotel restaurant (centara trat). They want to learn the very basics of fishing. So my questions are: 1. if we went to a fishing park (never been to one), could we hire the tackle and bait there, and would there be anyone there who could teach them the basics, or would they look at me like crazy-farlang for asking? 2. Where in the bangna/Suvarnabhumi area would you recommend a fishing park? Cheers

impulse
My recommendation would be Pilot 111. You can hire tackle there, and it's pretty decent quality. I've taken several kids out there and they had a blast. If they're not catching, the guys will come by and chum the area and they seem to be real kid-friendly. They'll cook your catch at the great little dining room. Out the BangNa Trad highway, about 300-400 baht taxi from Bangkok proper. Should be less from the airport area. Details and directions in Thai (for the taxi driver) and in English, are found in these excellent Thailand fishing links. http://bangkokhooker-fishing.com/ http://www.john-tom.com/FishingInThailand/FishingInThailand.html
