True fibre internet connection problem. Outstanding debt from last tenant?

Waited 2 weeks for True to come and connect fibre today. They already checked our address no problems apparently. Arrived today, 4 hours late of course after we waited home all day only to tell us True was previously installed here and old tenants have left an outstanding debt and they can't connect. There was no reasoning with them either. We tried to tell them we aren't the owners, this is a rental home. The same scenario must happen in Thailand 2000 times a day with all the rentals here but the home (not the person) gets blacklisted forever? I tried online chat with their service department, only got a sorry. Called, got sorry again.

The ridiculous thing is we have True vision and True on my phone and always pay promptly. We only moved in here one month ago and was no problem moving True Vision from our previous home. I get so sick of this BS here. Every time we try and do anything always ends the same. It's like whoever you deal with looks for a problem and are pleased when they find one. Before anyone jumps down my throat about a farang attitude adjustment and you get more flys with honey etc.... my missus dealt with them. I have been so happy with my dealings with True in the past. Actually thought they were the only professional organisation I've dealt with here in Thailand. Anyone else had a similar experience?

You should have your landlord pay the bill - he should have held back deposit money for such unpaid bills.

Well for one tgat won't happen. They didn't even clean the place before we moved in. Secondly I don't believe it's the landlords responsibility. Surely he can't check with 10 or so service providers before clearing previous tenants deposit?

The landlord holds (in theory) onto the deposit for 4 weeks after tenants move out to clear any outstanding bills.

Just use another provider, or pay the existing final bill, cannot be more than a couple of months, because they cut the service.

EDIT: added (in theory)

Yep. Find out how much the bill is. If you are staying more than a year it 'might' be worth it to pay off the back debt.

A relative owns a block of units near a local University. We sometimes go by to help maintain the units when they're empty.

Last time I was there the water company had actually removed the meter on one of the units when the previous tenant neglected their obligation to pay the water bill. The obligation is both on the renter and the landlord.

Blacklisting an address isn't limited to Thailand.

Well it seems you have been waiting 2 weeks - did you find out how much was owed? It might be worth paying?

Would be fine paying the bill if they'd tell me how much it was. It's just all ridiculous. Logic doesn't come into it. Just bad business. As far as True are concerned internet will never be installed in this house until whoever owes the debt pays up. Probably a farang gone back home never to return Edited by Kenny202

If you were the seller being burned by a foreigner would you be anxious to extend service to the next foreigner who asks? Seems rather logical to me.

Obviously one would hope for solutions to be offered - but many companies are short in that thinking and probably would not want to suggest you pay outstanding bill for household you now reside.

As said there may be other options - depending on your location - but if not it might be worth asking if you could make payment.

Firstly i dont know that it was a foreigner. And the rest of it is a crock or would be anywhere else in the world. Debt for services or utilities is with the person, not the home

I've just had a problem with them as well - they told me my particulars were registered with another office and that I had to go there to sort out my problem. I said you could look up the details on the computer - "no, sir, cannot - you go other office". Sigh.

If that is logic to you then i assume you already don't do business with Thais anymore for many years.

Many years ago I had a tenant, who never paid the water bill, and used to fill the tank with the water trucks. So when he left the water had not been paid for 6 months. Got a new tenant, and tried to get connected, ' oh cannot need last water bill, and have to pay' obviously did not have this to hand, so I went to see my lawyer, who duly wrote me a letter to take back to the water company so as to get connected. Produced the letter, and the reply was 'fralang cannot have water'. With this I went back to my lawyer and said what had happened. They got on the telephone to the water company and spoke in a very angry tone for about 5 mins. Then my lawyer said 'it's ok to go back now, your water will be connected, . Went back to the water company, and the girl that I had previously spoken to said ' very sorry Mister, you can have water now'

Why a big company doesn't want your money is beyond me.

I've found exactly that in so many of my dealings here. Being the customer doesn't come into it. The fact that you want to purchase something here seems...in a Thais eyes....that they have one over you. No logic, no reason, no making sense of it
