Sacked and suspected officials by the junta can defend themselves

BANGKOK: -- Any of the 59 individuals dismissed or suspended from their duties for suspected wrongdoings by an order of the National Council for Peace and Order are welcome to come forward to defend themselves, Justice Minister Paiboon Kumchaya said on Wednesday.

Local administrators of mayors of tambon administration organizations account for the majority of the 59 people penalized by the military junta. Also, the seven-member board of Thai Health Promotion Foundation was sacked.

General Paiboon said that authorities would explain to those who have doubt about the actions against them and to show them the evidences against them which were used as the basis to mete out the penalties against them.

As for the ThaiHealth board whose dismissal was blamed on liquor and cigarette corporations by some critics, the justice minister insisted that the NCPO’s decision to sack the board was based on the foundation’s mismanagement of its fund.

He said he had no doubt about the merits of ThaiHealth’s several projects such as cross-year prayers and no liquor during the Buddhist Lent but the issue at stake was that some of the projects were improperly implemented.

Regarding local administrators and TAO mayors who form the bulk of the group of 59 sacked or suspended by the junta, General Paiboon said that several local administrators were not familiar with proper budgeting – hence the need to have them trained or educated by the Government Sector’s Corruption Suppression Centre.

...For all the good it will do...

Said the spider to the fly.

"...several local administrators were not familiar with proper budgeting ..."

Thailand budgeting = one for you, and two for me, one for you, and two for me (repeat)

Any generals among the accused?

Any generals among the accused?

Generally speaking, they are all considered above corruption. coffee1.gif

Nice pun and double entendre. thumbsup.gif

"authorities would ... show them the evidences against them which were used as the basis to mete out the penalties against them."

No evidence has been produced.

No evidence has been made public.

The NCPO will act as judge to any defense.

Likely any defense will not be made public.

Welcome to NCPO's reform of justice.
