how to have a cheap place in Pattaya?

Recommended Posts

Plenty of places in Pattaya that are 32sqm with air, hot shower, T.V etc for 4K upwards. Thai rooms but clean and secure. Look around Portisarn, an abundance.

Sorry, where is Portisarn ?

I think he means Photisarn, it is a soi Naklua.

If you have a cheap room there is a good chance you will not have transport so

you would not want to live way out here...

I have, pick up and bikes, I am just exploring the option of a rental property as I spent 40k on accommodation in Pattaya last year.

I spend between 8000 to 14000 bahts all included.

I don't need ac, I m resistant to heat because I was born without ac. it s nice to have a cold room but fan is OK.

I have a small room and I m happy. no bill, no worry, all money saved for my retirement.

If you really want to live like a poor thai person you can save even more money by getting someone in to share your room and that way split the rent and food costs.

Thats clever .Install an a/c in a cheap room and then pay B2000 a month or more in Electric lol...(many landlords charge B7 a unit in a rented property while the true rate direct to the electric company is only B3.5 .)If you are here long enough you can learn to live with just a fan .

Most cheap apartments charge 8 Baht per unit..

If you want a cheap apartment you WILL pay a high

Baht per unit almost always...

Living with No aircon at all in Pattaya is a proposition that

should not be taken by any farang other than as a last resort in my opinion..

Agree most places are at least 8baht. That is what I pay.

My electric bill is around 3k a month. I usually use it a night for sleeping. Never really put it on in the daytime. I also use a lot of elec because I cook most meals at home and use a lot of elec appliances.

Very hard to live without AC in Patts. It is just too hot and I say that as someone who has always lived in hot climates.

You can live like a thai if you like but most Thais if they had money would definitely not live like a thai peasant in a small room with no aircon YMMV

You negotiate that down to 4.5 baht/Month which is the government rate. Its easy "I like your place but I will not pay double for electricity, why should I ?" then just move on to some one who wants your business

I paid 4.5 in view talay, no problems

If you are going to be cheap be really cheap and freeze some water bottles during the day in your small frig and put them in front of your fan at night so you get cool air blown on you when you are trying to sleep.

For hot showers you must heat the water and dump in a big bucket with normal water and dump over your head slowly. Or ... Get a long hose and put a shower nozzle at the end. Leave the hose in the morning sun if possible and you will have a nice hot shower. Hahaha.... Memories of staying on the farm.

you can not split the food cost unless you eat half.

this is what farang think. because I pay near nothing for my living, it doesn't mean I live badly. instead I live much better than the majority of farangs living in Thailand.

have some friends who have lost all in Los. they had a life style at 60k-70k month and they got nothing in return. they wasted all their money around and some have been in dodgy business . most of their money is now in pockets of Thai ladies. some are dead, killed, pushed over balcony....

they laughed at me, they told me I m a cheap Charlie, these guys are today on the street or claiming assistance in their nanny state now when I m living a simple life but I have all I need like room, scooter, travel with plane, iPhone , best Thai food around, and clothes for free, haircut and dentist cost near nothing. self-insured with my saving, .... I don't need Netflix, cable or satellite TV. I have the tv with a few farang channels that suit me perfectly. . if I want some movies I can get them for free and it s all legal. Internet can be shared. (when a guy broadcast his phone number in his ssid(ssid is the connection name under your Wi-Fi setting ) , call him.)

more later.

I repeat my earlier post, if you know all the answers, what's the point of asking questions?

Funny I have quite a few friends and none of them have lost their money or are on the streets.

Majority live on more than 60-70k a month and they are very happy with their lifestyles.

I guess it depends who you hang out with and what your ambitions are.

I think the OP maybe a troll.

But to help any guys out their who may really looking for a good cheap room.

First if your looking for a cheap room you most likely do not have transport so its important to

live near a Baht bus route and not way out...

The cheap places do not have a lobby with some one waiting to answer your questions..So get a

Thai girl to walk around with you and help you look..

High season sucks for looking for a room...

The Soi Bukow area is prime hunting ground...

You will pay a high baht per unit for electric,no way around this..

Get a room with aircon...Even if you do not use it 90% of the time..Because you will

be very happy you have it the other 10%...Very Very Very happy....

you can buy a second hand scooter for 20k bahts. maintain it regularly (oil change, filter change) and you can use it for 7 years or more.
you spend more for an scooter, but you can get a cheaper room in a quieter place than central Pattaya.

And what percentage of readers of this forum have licence valid for a motor scooter???

Valid for life, Which country ?

Not that it matters as you should get a Thai licence if you are not a tourist.

What about the area the other side of Third Road - approx from the village back towards Pattaya Klang.

Location is one area I won't compromise on personally. My room is tiny but I live in the heart of the city (2nd road). Going outside lifts my spirits after (or during) a long workday.

The price for this I gather is an extra $60 a month (5,000 baht instead of maybe 3,000 for a "scooter heavy" lifestyle).

Being vehicle independent itself has many health and social benefits as well.

Not putting down the OP, just trying to add to the conversation.

Fair comment. I can see the benefits of being vehicle-free.

However, I am looking at holiday/occasional accommodation and will have car and bike. I rarely use the car after arrival but getting around on a scooter is OK.

I lived for a year or so on the Darkside but I don't want to be that far out for current purposes.

Don't get taken in by real estate agents. They get 50% commission and have minimum prices such as 10k a month, etc.. Ridiculous. A Thai fan room should go for 2-3k a month and is fine if you get a good breeze. I would open the door and windows and have a big fan blowing all day to keep the humidity down. Most of the landlords make most of their profits from the extortionate electric prices so by renting a fan room you pay much less.

2-3 thousand a month!!!!!!! What would that be for then? I paid 5 just off Buakhao, but it was a decent room, not something only large enough for a bed. I did see some places for less than 5, but I wouldn't stay in them.

Absolutely no need to go near a real estate agent. Deal directly with the owner.

Yes, electricity is expensive due to overcharging by landlord/ lady.

No, no need for AC.

you can find room with fan and cold water for less than 4k but a few km outside Pattaya central.

with the money saved, you can have a scooter. scooter are really cheap to maintain and rarely break down compared to car. risky but as long you follow other ladies driving at 40km/h, you limit your risk from a crash.

Well, I think Soi Buakhao is fairly Central, and there is loads of apartments around the 4000 baht a month in that area.

Most have cold water, because they leave it up to you to fit a water heater.

If "you" fit a water heater, I hope "you" install a proper earth pole or an RCD or else "you" gonna die. The so called electrician that you pay to install it probably doesn't know what an earth is sad.png . The one I paid certainly didn't- had to do it myself.
