French explorer Jacques Cousteau's Calypso to sail again

PARIS: -- Calypso - the iconic ship of the late French marine explorer Jacques Cousteau - will sail again in a few months, its owners have revealed.

In an online statement, the Cousteau Society said the ship would "be getting a whole new life".

The ship featured in the documentary series The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau i

n the 1960s and 70s. It was badly damaged in 1996, when a barge accidentally crashed into it in the port of Singapore.

I don't think anyone has said it will sail again in a few months.

The owners and the shipyard are opposed in a legal battle, and yesterday the court of appeals in Rennes ordered the owners to remove the ship from the shipyard within 30 days.

The owners, "Equipe Cousteau" Foundation president Francine Cousteau, just said the ship will leave Concarneau for Genoa in Italy.

I don't think the Piriou shipyard will do any more work on the wreck and that the Calypso will reach Genoa, if ever, by road.
