I recently drove from Chiangmai to Chiangrai and back, and due to the road construction, the car is covered in black tar spots that are difficult to wash off. My local car wash guy won't touch it and I tried a product called Cadulac Conserver, which didn't do much good. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Carrfour has quite an extensive range of cleaning products for cars .

Would imagine that they would have a dedicated cleaner for tar , as we do back home called Tar Off .

Never had a problem here yet , but that's where I would be looking first .

If that doesn't work , I would try some metho , but be carefull , especially if you have a paint protector over it .

Cheers ,

Jim .

A little diesel fuel on a rag will take it off quickly. Put a decent wax on it after you get it cleaned up.

You can also use lighter fluid, usually sold in yellow cans under the ZIPPO brand. This is naptha and will remove tar spots without damaging the paintwork but it will take off any wax that was applied.

There is also a specific product from AUTOGLYM for Tar Removal. Surprisingly, it is called Autoglym Tar remover, and it treats your paintwork like a babys ass, unlike using deisel (especially on metallic finishes!).

However, Autoglym is like trying to find rocknig horse sh*t. I can get it here in Bangkok, but i gotta drive all the way to Viphavadee. I suggest you check out some of the high end detailing places for it, especially if you love your motor.

I would not attempt to remove it myself and would suggest engaging the services of a professional paint detailing company to remove it for you. You could do more damage yourself by trying other methods.

WD-40 works great on boats for the same problem.

I belive that SONAX- mentioned above, is virtually the same thing.

SONAX contains MoS2 (molybdenum Disuphine) powder in suspension. The 'carier' liquid will dissolve the tar but a film of MoS2 will be left behind.

WD40 is better for easier clean-up.
