Northpoint Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 I will be going back to Thailand next month. I have a single entry Non-Immigrant O Visa, issued at a consulate in Australia. My intention was to stay in Thailand for 3 months and 3 weeks (110 days) before returning to Australia. I thought I would be able to extend the 3-months single entry Non-Immigrant O Visa by 30 days at the Immigration Office in Jomtien, to allow me to stay for 110 days without having to leave Thailand. The Non-Immigrant O Visa stamp in my passport says at the bottom: "Extension of stay not permitted". Does that mean I will not be able to apply for the additional 30 days wihout having to leave Thailand and I will have to do a border run? Any advice would be appreciated.

You will not be able to extend a single entry Non-Imm 'O' by 30 days, you will have to leave the Kingdom when your permission to stay expires.
aussiestyle1983 Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Just do a visa run / border crossing after your visa expires. When you come back in you will get another 30 days for free, giving you enough time to complete your trip. Even though on the bottome of the visa is says "extension of stay not permitted" thats just put there by the embassy, its up to immigration if they will give you an extension or not. If your not married and you have a Non O, you proably wont get an extension. Just do the border crossing after your 90 days on the Non O is up, it might work out cheaper than applying for an extension anyway........................ Where in Oz did you get your visa? just curious................
naka Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Just do a visa run to Poi Pet or similar afer your visa expires ... no problem. Naka.

I sent my passport with the application form and a A$ 90 money order by registered mail with a reply-paid envelope. It took less than a week to have my passport with the visa returned.

That surely can be extentded for 30 days?
lopburi3 Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 The max stay is 90 days. Be it single entry or multi entry. He has to exit the country so he may as well take advantage of the free entry without visa to return.
aussiestyle1983 Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Im surprised Brisbane only gave you single entry...................... I got a 1 year without showing anything, but I mailed my passport to attention of the consul general after speaking with him on the phone...................... Anyway, after your 3 months is up, just do 1 visa run that will give you the other month you need. cheers.

"EXTENSION OF STAY NOT PERMITTED" is on all non-o visa's. i have 1 and get my renewed every year. mine is good for 1 year. u should be able to get an extension for 30days!

I chose the single entry option as my Aussie passport is due for renewal next year. I will also have to be back in Darwin late February to attend to a few other matters. When I get the new passport I will make a descision about what kind of visa will suit me best when I will come back to Thailand once more in April 07. I could go for another single entry Non-Immigrant O Visa and then apply for a retirement extension in Thailand. With the multiple Non-Immigrant O Visa I would not have to transfer THB 800K to Thailand, but would have to do a border run within any 90-day period. At the moment I also like the idea of getting an OA Visa in Australia, which is good for 365 days and where it is not necessary to do border runs or move funds out of Australia. We shall see. If I am mistaken in any way or should anyone have any better ideas on how to proceed, please let me know. Cheers

Do you apply for an extension at BKK immigration or do you leave the country and get a brand new 1 year non immigration type O? Are you married to a Thai person or in possession of a work permit? Would love to hear more about your situation. Cheers, Skeet
lopburi3 Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 The O-A option for funds outside Thailand is for application/approval in home country but once you have to extend in Thailand the money will have to be here. In any event if you have pension/income of 65k per month that will qualify as well. Or if less than 65k the amount on deposit could be less than the 800k (making up a combined total of about 800k).

Some time ago I read on the Pattayaexpats website that it can be possible to get a 30-day extension for a Non-Immigrant O Visa. Maybe it is up to the discretion of the Thai Immigration officials to allow extensions. Cheers

Lopburi3, I understand that with the OA option I could at least delay the transfer of money for another year. I have sufficient funds and income but money invested in Australia gives me a much better return than having it in a Thai bank account. Cheers
lopburi3 Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Yes it would delay it. But if you have the income that can be certified by your Embassy there is no reason to worry about it as you would not need the 800k bank account.

But if you have the income that can be certified by your Embassy there is no reason to worry about it as you would not need the 800k bank account. I have no fixed regular income but get a good income from dividends and interest. I am investing in equities and some real estate. I leave about three years living expenses in cash management accounts. This allows me to ride out any lows in the markets. I don't know how the Embassy would be able to certify such circumstances. I have done fairly well since retiring from my regular job seven years ago. Thanks for the clarification.
