Another day in Bangkok is another new mall, but this one seems different from the rest

BANGKOK: -- The Commons, a new cozy community mall in Thong Lor, has opened it doors and aims to become “Thong Lor’s backyard” and a gathering of premium shops and services.

Unlike the Central chain of shopping malls, which keep popping up across the city and get bigger every time, The Commons is located on a small landscape in Thong Lor soi 17 which used to be Palazzo Ristorante & Wine Bar. It is divided into four floors and zones with a hangout area at the staircase.

The walkway is made of wood planks, giving the space a feel of an artistic loft with plants thoughtfully scattered throughout the place.

Thank goodness. People were starting to run out of shopping mall options in Bangkok.

The place is still under construction and only a few places open last week when I visited Roast.

A shopping mall that straddles 4 floors and is 'cozy'? Surely they are not referring to the Four Floors in Singapore?

The biggest departmentstore in Tokyo has 14! floors....

Personally i don't like wooden decks, they are always crappy and rotting very fast. When i have to walk over them i always look for the nails (they don't use stainless screws) to step on but make sure the nails are not coming out of they will go through the slippers.

The problem with big malls is that parking takes ages and also they cause a lot of traffic congestion around them.

Nothing to get too excited about; there are numerous new, 'much needed' malls, in the throes of being built in Thonglor. As for '... the Central chain of shopping malls, which keep popping up across the city and get bigger every time ...' someone is surely getting confused with the Mall group, together with the Emporium.

That's not strange because it is confusing.

Emporium/Emquartier are from the mall group but the Tops in Emporium also has a gourmet market while other gourmet markets like in Crystal design mall for example don't sell the same products as the other ones like in Paragon.

I just wished we got new malls with Foodland inside. I don't like Tops.
