Hi all, i am on a non imm o multi entry still have another 7 months left on it so still will be doing visa runs, i am thinking of getting a yearly extension to save me doing border runs every 3 months, i can comply to all the requirements and was wondering how many extensions you are allowed as i would also like to get permnant residency in the future, and i know you have to be here 3 consecutive years so was thinking it might be better to get a extension now :o also if you leave the country whilst on a extension does this mean you start from scratch on returning whilst still on your extension?? any ideas?? :D

You need to get a reentry permit from Immigration before you go if you have a one year extension, 1000 baht for a single entry. Multi entry is more, can't remember how much, sorry.

I've had one year extensions for 14 years so there doesn't seem to be any limit on it, just what you can tolerate :o

Thats ok, you're new and haven't heard my endless tale of woe :D

I am a woman married to a Thai man and should be eligible for citizenship without needing PR. Since PR costs 95,000baht ++ and citizenship is much cheaper and offers far more, I'd prefer to go that route (and yes, dual is allowed). But, I must apply in the province where my husband is registered and the guy who was supposed to be able to do it (special branch police) didn't even know it was his job.

I think, now that I have a bit more info thanks to Samran :D that I will try again in a few years. I need to get a yellow tabien bahn (which I hadn't heard before) so I will do that and then contact the Bangkok office and have them contact the Provincial office and tell them how to do it.

Hopefully :o

Just thought I should add some more to this. I have been here almost 6 years working in various provinces. I have been married to a Thai for about 3 years. The requirement for residence permit is a stay of at least 3 years while getting a salary of a minimum of 50,000 THB per month during this stay. This is to ensure you are paying taxes. Besides, if you have a child from your Thai spouse, this should reduce the amount to 35,000 THB per month. The application for residence will have to be sometimes in December and I believe it is somewhere around 7000-8000 baht. After which you will have to wait a minimum of a year to get a reply.

I also understand that once you get the residence permit, if you wish to leave the country on a business trip or whatever, you will have to pay around 6000 THB every year to do so. I think this will be done at the police station of your local district.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for that so does that mean you have to be working before you can get a residence permit?? :o

I cannot be certainly sure you have to be working. At least in my case (when I was there to check for the requirements) and many others I know about, they were constantly asking for the PO NGO DO 91 (PND91) for the last 3 years. I also checked Camerata's attached document (pinned topic--please check) and it seems similar to what I have been saying. Again, I'm not sure if there is any other way around this.

I retired in LOS Oct. 05 1 year retirement visa from consul in Hawaii. I returned to Hawaii in Feb 06 for 10 days and on returning my visa was stamped N-O-A April1 06 to March 31 07, sounded good to me, but I worried that things would change when I went in for my 90 day address report, but no attached paper to that page and didn't even look at retirement page. Next trip to Hawaii Sept 06 to Oct. 9 06 and I get a stamp under previous one for 1 year to Oct. 8 07. My retirement visa expired Oct. 14th, am I still legal? Since it is 1 year to I have to leave the country every 90 days, or just report my address?

You now must obtain a re entry permit prior to leaving Thailand or you will lose your extension of stay status. But you can stay until Oct 8, 2007 stamp in your passport - prior to which time you will have to visit immigration and extend for another year - and do so each year. You do not need another visa or have to leave the country every 90 days. You need to make 90 day address from the date of your last entry into Thailand and continue every 90 days unless you leave - clock would start at 1 on day of return.
