Looks like your typical Apple fan-boy...stupid to be carrying 20k cash and a 30k phone while stumbling drunk down the street in a country where the average monthly salary is less than 10k per month.

Where do you get this information from. While not a very accurate measure GDP per capita is closer to 40k per month,

There is no reliable statistic I can find anywhere to support your claim. The minimum wage is 300 bht per day which

would be close to the figure you mentioned, but the minimum wage is certainly not the average wage. Also the average national

wage argument would also be very tenuous in a country with such wealth disparity within different regions. The average wage in

a very popular tourist resort would be far higher than the national average.

I am sure you are not making up figures just to justify calling the victim of a crime stupid.

This is no longer a safe place to be for foreigners, especially Farang, .... Never go out at night alone, never wear gold jewelry, never carry more than a few thousand baht and never get drunk, ...all of these make you a target! Sad that we have to take precautions like this now, but the world is a lot more dangerous place to be than it was 15 years ago

You must not have looked very hard...or do you consider World Bank figures to be unreliable? ?

Poor lad i hope he was well insured.

just another drunken tourist wondering the streets alone late at night! what the hell did he expect? a lollypop? every year this happens time and time again.

You would think they would know better...the same or worse would happen in any major European city under similar circumstances. I put it down to racism...as they don't expect this from the "docile Orientals. "

The BIG issue is the robbery irrelevant of the amount stolen.

Most posters seem to be focusing on how much money he was carrying and if it is too much to be carrying around in your wallet. You should be able to carry as much as you want without being robbed. It is not unusual for me to carry 20,000THB after withdrawing money from the ATM, as I imagine in not uncommon for most visitors / holiday makers.

As for being drunk is that not what most people do when on vacation especially when young (he should have had a nice young lady escorting him home biggrin.png )

That is a large amount of cash for such a young guy.

Hopefully he can provide an ATM slip for his cash withdrawal.

Since when is 20.000 B much money?

Ask the lad if he thinks it is. If you carry a similar disposable amount on a regular basis, can we discuss it somewhere out of the way? I could use some advice on how to have more money than brains.

Or a sexy ladyboy, she would have surely protected her investment.

Sounds like you've been hanging around with Suratwit down there in Patts ...

Why is he stupid? Last I noticed, people try to have a good time when on holiday. Even in your day!

There he was, out supporting the local economy, (drinking), over served, (drinking too much)

and he is made to give a donation (robbed) by a local man in need (thug/thief). I only hope

the police are able to track his phone, (suggestion whistling.gif ) and get justice/the full story.

So over 500 Euros or 550 US isn't much money to you?

Seems like an okay weekly wage to me in 'farangland'. You wouldn't be disappointed at all with being robbed of a week's wage would you?

Oh, wait a moment, are you one of those guys that sits around all day telling people about how much land and how big your house is? (All in the wife's name of course)

Who cares how much money he was carrying, it was armed robbery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If he was robbed whilst in his room by knife point it would still be the same result, (there again everyone would start preaching about using the safe)

The news is about the robbery not how much he was carrying (people need to get over it, same result if h was only carrying 3,00THB)

What he meant is that " its stupid to carry " that amount. This could be an actual robbery with a little added to the loss in the report. like" No honey ,I did not spend the rent money on those lady boys."

When you are earning the minimum wage in Thailand (app 300 baht a day) or living on a Govt pension then 20,000 baht IS a lot of money!

Doesn't sound like that is what he meant at all! Maybe what he SHOULD have meant to say - 2 completely different statements. Sometimes to avoid paying 150 baht for every withdrawal people will make a significant withdrawal in one go - maybe the max that their Debit Card allows. However, it is not a good idea to walk round drunk with that amount of money on your person - especially in Pattaya!

Thais with money aren't doing the dirty deeds, its the unemployed or drug addicts, people with no money at the time of crime.

Why do these dumbos go walk about during the late hours and usually tanked up?

Probably because they read the ThaiVisa posters who continually prattle on about how safe it is in Thailand.

Pattaya ain't Thailand and either is Phuket. If he read TVF,he wouldn't have come at all.

This is the hardest phone to steal. As soon as it is turn on it can be tracked. Even if the sim is replaced it can still be found. I have my doubts about the story though.

The phone is easy to steal,a Thai bloke just did it.keeping it and fencing it is the hard part.
