Consequences of getting an ED visa and then not attending classes?

Featured Replies

I paid $700 bucks for a 3-month Thai language course and the school is in the process of getting me an ED visa. I've had a change of heart and no longer feel like learning Thai at this time, but would still like to visit Thailand and might instead spend the three months learning Muay Thai. If I allow the school to complete the process of getting me an ED visa and use the visa to enter the country, will there be any consequences if I then notify the school I've decided not to attend?

Coming here and blowing off classes is a big waste of $700. If I were you, I'd tell the school not to process your Ed visa just yet and arrange a delayed enrollment into the class you registered for. Then just enter the country on a $40 tourist visa.

"Schools " do not and cannot obtain visas.

All a school can do is provide the paperwork to support an in person application for a visa.

Visas are obtained from Thai Embassies./ Consulates situated outside Thailand

No consequences. You just wouldn't be able to extend for another 3 months, if the school reported your lack of attendance. You're only doing 3 months though so that's not an issue.

(Normally courses that qualify for an Ed visa last a year with extensions every 3 months).

But yeah they wouldn't report you instantly and track you down and cancel your visa, nothing like that, and no consequences when leaving the country. Unlikely they even report your absence - they probably just wouldn't approve you for an extension if you decided to stay longer than 3 months (some schools still would, it depends).

If I couldn't get a refund (fairly likely, this is Thailand) I'd go to Laos once they'd processed the paperwork for me, get the visa, come back in and enjoy my 3 months doing Muay Thai.

If I could get a refund, I'd come in on a single entry tourist visa (gives you 3 months) and use the money for Muay Thai classes.

Why did you even bother with an ed visa. Next time get a setv or still better an metv and just study whatever you wish whenever you want

No consequences and u can extend your ed visa. Schools dont care if u attend or not classes. 700 for only 3 months? U really didnt shop around. What school was that?

Find a muay thai school instead of the language school. If you are eligible for a visa exempt apon entry, you can come and find a school. Once you do that and have required paperwork from that school, you can obtain your Ed visa from immigration.

Expensive way to get a visa Noobie

Recently met a girl who told me her and her boyfriend were here on an Education visa, based on them learning Mauy Thai. She told me her boyfriend was actually learning it, but she only said so for visa purposes.
