BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister’s Office Minister Suwaphan Tanyuwatthaya said today (Thursday) that he had received a formal letter from the Buddhism Office informing about the Supreme Sangha Council’s resolution nominating Somdet Phra Maha Ratchamanglacharn as the 20th Supreme Patriach.

He said that the resolution was unanimously endorsed by all members of the Supreme Sangha Council at a special meeting held on January 5. The council, he explained, is authorized to call a special meeting and this was done before.

The minister, however, disclosed three council members namely Somdet Phra Maha Ratchamanglacharn, the abbot of Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen, Somdet Phra Maha Veerawong, the abbot of Wat Samphanthawongsaram, and Somdet Phra Buddhakosa Voraviharmcharn, the abbot of Wat Suthasthepvararam Maha Vihara, were absent from the special meeting.

Minister Suwaphan said that his responsibility, from now on, was to collect all relevant information about the selection process for submission to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha for consideration.

To do so, he explained that he would consult with Deputy Prime Minister Wisanu Krea-ngarm, the Buddhism Office and the Supreme Sangha Council to make sure that the information is complete because this is a sensitive issue.

This process may take time and he has no idea when it will be completed, said the minister.

Bad news for budha isara.

Why? Ven. Buddha Issara will get his wish to object and attract attention to himself, until the political arena opens up again.

"The process may take some time...".

For crying out loud, the guys 90! Don't take too long, or your efforts may have been in vain, and the whole process will need to start anew.

We're now being told elsewhere that DSI is

nvestigating a slew of complaints which implicate Somdet Phra Maha Ratchamangalacharn in several scandals.

Is nothing sacred in this country any more?
