Requirements and form for applying for new thai passport for baby

Featured Replies

The wife and I are in defacto relationship (ie do not have registered marriage) and have a 2 yr old baby. We live in the north east and want to go to bangkok to apply for new passport for farang noi

Questions:

1. is there a website we can download the form?

2. where in bkk do we go? are they open saturdays?

3. if we live in the north can we still go to the bkk office or do we need to go to the local city office 2 hours away?

4. do I need to go along with the wife if we are not married. My name is on the babies birth certificate

5. what size passport photos for the baby? Do I need to take any?

6. How long will it take on a saturday morning? If we arrive 9am are there big queues?

thanks

Did this about a year ago.

1. is there a website we can download the form? --No need, just fill out at office

2. where in bkk do we go? are they open saturdays? --Chaeng Wattana is the easiest, not open Saturdays

3. if we live in the north can we still go to the bkk office or do we need to go to the local city office 2 hours away?--I think BKK is the only place you can get a passport.

4. do I need to go along with the wife if we are not married. My name is on the babies birth certificate--If the baby has your last name, I would suggest going with your passport, make sure to bring the birth certificate obviously.

5. what size passport photos for the baby? Do I need to take any?--They take the picture at CW no need to bring photos. Best to have two people to help hold the baby while taking the picture.

6. How long will it take on a saturday morning? If we arrive 9am are there big queues? I was in an out in less than 20 minutes, went at 9am on a weekday. Passport will be mailed within a week.

Required documents fro the passport can be found here: http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/1415/21479-Requirements-for-the-Ordinary-e-Passports-Applicat.html

I don't recall a page where you can download the form.

No need for photos.

They will EMS the passport to you a few days of application.

I do not think that you will be required at the passport office because you have no legal standing as far as the baby is concerned his mother as Sole Parenting right over your child

Not sure why you quoted my post. I find it easier to post the link for the requirements rather than explaining them.

It is my understanding of them that both parents need to be present even it they are not married unless the non attending parent gives consent for the other one to do it alone.

does anyone know if the babies birth certificate has to be registered on the house book before we apply?

  • Author

ONe of the links above says

  • If the applicant was born to parents who did not sign a marriage certificate, only the mother of the applicant can sign the parental consent form. She will need to bring a letter guaranteeing sole guardianship issued by her domicile district office (Por Kor 14) accompanied by her ID Card which must bear the title ‘Miss’.

thus, it looks like the wife will have to get that form done before we go to bkk and we will have to take the house book

Yes This from the required documents listed "House Registration".

That is only needed if she is giving somebody consent to do the application.
