Drought situation only affects farming, says Interior Minister

BANGKOK, 20 January 2016 (NNT) – The Minister of Interior has revealed the ongoing drought situation only affects the agricultural sector, before dispatching a committee to surveying the affected areas.

The Minister of Interior Gen Anupong Paojinda has said 30 provinces have now been declared as drought affected areas, with major pressure on the agricultural sector, with only minor disruptions to consumption water production.

He said that the current problems have not affected entire provinces, just in some areas. Authorities will be dispatching a committee to survey and compile the damage report to further provide assistance to the affected public.

The Ministry will be cooperating with water managing agencies to aid farmers, while more provinces may declare themselves as drought affected areas, depending on the situation, said the Minister of Interior, expecting no more provinces to announce drought disaster situations.

It must be nice to live in Bangkok and say the crap this guy is telling the people. How would Bangkok like to live daily with 3 to 4 hours a day of water coming with hardly no pressure and say it not affecting most people.

Only farming, so nobody else needs / uses water ?

Anyway it will all be fixed in no time as it's being handled by a committee, so that's all good.

What about tourism impact at places that promote rivers and waterfalls? What about local merchants who can no longer sell products to the farmers because there are no crops being produced? I'm sure there are other things that could be on the list as well. The "trickle-down" affect will be felt by many more than just the farmers.

Is there any intelligent life here?

Do you mean in Thailand in general or on TVF in particular?

Or perhaps even just amongst Thailands Generals?

There is still at least 3 more months of dry weather...even more, based on last year. Bangkok isn't out of the woods yet, specially if farmers continue to draw water unabated.

Effects farmers at this time, but there seems to be no plan in place

to make sure the general population will continue to have water

coming out their taps, not even a hose pipe ban yet !facepalm.gif

Only farmers?

And what do farmers produce?

Does the Interior Minister eat food? Thai food or imported food?

Is the statement indicitive of the intelligence of those in positions of authority?

Then the Interior Minister should come to rural Thailand where I live.

We have had NO water from the government water supply since mid December 2015.

Yeah, right. Tell that to the hundreds of people up here who are affected up here EVERY year, certainly in the 12 years I have lived here.

My town went on rationing hours even before the last disappointing rain season was over and began borrowing water from a neighboring town since December.

We did, however, have significant rain fall last night. Very heavy, extended downpours with steady rain in between for 5 hours straight, rolling thunder, lighting, etc. Shocking for this time of year, but very welcome.

April. May or June at the latest - that's when they'll really hit a problem.

Then, supplies will be affected for everyone. So, we'll see if the current government can manage this better than how the previous handled the floods in 2011.

Feeling very reassured. Can the generals go back to running the army and let someone else have a go at running the country? They may now be realizing that running the latter is a tad more difficult than managing an army.

This is a centralist government Bangkok comes first foremost. Again the varnish brush is out. I no longer believe government gov-speak, rubber numbers or verbal chest beating.

I thought Rompin Ronnie was dead? We need water for tourism everything else on the back burner.

I guess there is a price to be paid to live in the hinterland. Come to Chiang Mai we have our own well in my condo. I quit putting my faith in governments to deliver anything years ago. Keep a sharp watch out for the government officials coming into YOUR affected area. Tell us when they arrive. If they arrive don't blink you may miss them. After living 12 years under those conditions your my hero.

Why yes Jim, I believe it is - there appears to be a direct correlation as they prove time after time and to be fair their idiocy appears to know no bounds, shame really but that is what you get in an uneducated feudal society base on nepotism, cronyism and corruption, sad but hardly surprising.....

I haven't really believed ANY government speak here in Thailand or in most other countries I have been to and unless it is local news I haven't believed the BBC News since Alvar Lidell (look him up) was a trainee.

At about 5 pm this afternoon we had enough rain to show up as spots on the path but not enough to actually cover the path.

Now that is going to fill the klong and give us enough to spare to send to Bangkok.

Not as we know it, Jim

Please accept my apologies for the use of your name Jim but Marks reply triggered this in my mind as a sort of description of most Thai politicians over the past 20 odd years, irrespective of the their political allegiances or shirt colours.

Another well informed statement from a general! No hope for these people.

The problems with people in power is you have to have a smidgeon of trust in them. Remember the gateway statement that stated the idea was shelved well guess what we are getting it. Uncle Too wants to watch you and guide you into his path of righteousness see things his way and if you don't he has the computer crimes act LM and article 44 to bring you into his thought orbit.
