BANGKOK: -- Predawn rains heavily lashed Bangkok and adjacent provinces today, inundating many roads in the capital's inner and outer zones, and bringing early morning's traffic to a standstill.

The Department of Drainage and Sewerage of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration said the predawn rains lashed almost all parts of Bangkok with heaviest rain was reported at Bang Na where rain level was measured at 67.5 mm.

It caused floodings on several roads, particularly Sukhumvit from Soi 71 to Soi Bearing where 200 metres section was submerged.

The Theparak road to Samrong and Phraeksa in Samut Prakarn province was reported under 20-30 centimetres of flood water.

In the inner zone of Bangkok, rain flooded Rama IV near Klong Toey market, Srinakharinwirot road, Lardprao-Wanghin road.

Several trees were also uprooted and blocked traffic on many roads.

Several schools were also closed due to unexpected floods in Samut Prakarn, particularly Assumption Samut Prakarn.

Traffic Police Division reported heavy traffic jams and traffic accidents due to heavy rains today.

Traffic jams were reported on Srinakharin road from Samut Prakarn to Bangkok, New Road from Tanon Tok to Chan road, Uttaraphimuk tollway, Phaholyothin from Bang Khen to Bang Bua, to Kaset intersection, Ratprarob from Pratunam to Makkasan, Ratchadspisek from Ratchayothin to Ratchada-Lardprao, and Rama 3.

Just a little reminder of the coming rainy season (maybe) tongue.png

It looks like "The Department of Drainage and Sewerage" is a useless ,nonfunctional department.May be this is where all the police and government employees go when assigned to their non duty area.as punishment.

This is when I'm glad I spend most of my time outside of Bangkok.

I can just picture myself in the traffic jam which makes the local trip longer than the time it takes to drive from Bangkok to Pattaya.

Oh sure, my wife spends 3 hours in the car for a trip of 20 km regularly. That's life in BKK and why i drive motocy.

But imagine all those expensive importcars being in 30 cm water facepalm.giffacepalm.gif

It's obvious the Thai can't build drainage systems, even after all the money they spent recently.....They installed 8 huge pumps in the canals to protect the city and the riverlevel is very low at the moment so it should be easy to pump into the chao praya.

Oh well........gigglem.gif

I live in Huay Yai, the east side of Pattaya opposite Jomtien Beach on the coast.

The elevation is high as you typically go up the mountain east, away from Sukhumvit Rd.

Nonetheless Huay Yai regularly experiences flooding, there is next to zero regard for drainage.

I'm presently fighting city hall or tesaban because they think nothing of letting people pave over the very few water ways that drain the landscape.

Thais don't anticipate problems, they fix them, and that's only half the time.
