papa al
My +30Kkm. ceeber was smoking a bit, and especially @ ‘fast’ highway riding...130+/-. So took her in this AM for top job. Cost of service: 910baht, Piston, rings, pin, \\ bore + 1/2 mm.,& hone. 320baht, 2-gaskets, coolant, solvent. 500baht, labor... apart and back together. =1,730baht Total shop fees. I brought in my own liter of Castrol 10w30. 170baht $53 = grand total. Not too bad. I think I’ll go break her in. marcusb
30,000km seems very early to be doing piston work on a cbr 150, or any non racing bike for that matter. Hope this one lasts you longer. Good price though.

Goes for most 1 cyl engines, I recall a post about a pcx that also needed new rings very early due to riding a lot at full whack.

Yes. before I acquired the bike 2 years ago at 5Kkm., it was operated only 3 months per year and parked in cottage 9 months, and not ridden over 60/70 max, [samui] so maybe some rust in there. papa al
Where did you get the work done and how long did it take papa al ? Had the bike @ the shop as they rolled up the doors at 0830. They looked like they might have been out nite before. I went out for coffee. Meanwhile coffee cart showed up at shop and the guys were having a nosh. Disassembled. Lunch Machinework & re-assembly. Started to ride at 2PM. Have been doing run-in: alternating accelerating and engine braking, 1. 10 min. at idle; cool & check. 2. 10 min easy riding home revving to 6000rpm max. Lunch. 2. 15 min ride, revving 7---> 8000rpm. New rear tire/cooling. 4. 15 min revving up to 9500. Red-line is 1150rpm. plan: 2mor, 5. 15 min to 10,000.; oil change. 6. 15 min to 10,500. Cool. 7. 15 running up to red-line, 1150rpm. That's it. O/C @ 1000km.
