PHUKET: -- Police are working to identify a foreigner who was killed after allegedly jumping in front of a tour bus in Patong early this morning.

Bus driver Somkhit Wongpan, 33, told officers that he was on his way to Patong after picking up about 20 Chinese tourists from the airport, confirmed Maj Pattapee Srichai of the Patong Police.

“Mr Somkhit saw a man standing by the road, looking at the bus as it made its way down Patong Hill. The man walked into the road, but Mr Somkhit switched lanes in order to avoid hitting him," said Maj Pattapee.

It's probably how the story was written and I can't get the Phuket Gazette to open to see the original story but if the driver switched lanes to avoid the pedestrian how did he end up dead ?

From the linked article: "However, the man allegedly jumped in front of the bus as it was passing him."

I am sure the police will ask the 20 passengers to collaborate this.

PHUKET: -- A Phuket expat today was able to identify a British man who allegedly jumped in front of a bus in Patong last week.

The foreigner, who asked to be named only as Darren, recognized the British national after seeing a picture of him supplied by Patong Police and published by the Phuket Gazette. Following the identification of the man, the Gazette removed the image of the body.

“He was one of my good friends. He really was a good man,” Darren told the Gazette. “The consul is now working on contacting the embassy to inform his next of kin.”

I opened the Phuket Gazette and the bit you didn't see (if the mods will let it through) was

quote “Mr Somkhit saw a man standing by the road, looking at the bus as it made its way down Patong Hill. The man walked into the road, but Mr Somkhit switched lanes in order to avoid hitting him," said Maj Pattapee.

"However, the man allegedly jumped in front of the bus as it was passing him.”

...because the pedestrian did not stop. Nor the bus. Fatal. Somehow strange. Suicide?

........................

....sorry for you and your loved one buddy......

...I guess we will never really know.....

...'had his shoes on the curb'.......???

...was he possibly waiting for the bus and tried to flag it down as it was 'going at great speed'.....'changing lanes to 'avoid' him'.....

.....I want to hope that there is nothing sinister about this.....

...but I have an 'unsettling feeling'.......

*******

...once while driving at 2:00 am on the highway......on the way to the border...... for a visa run.....

...one Thai and 2 westerners.....westerner driving....

...the police suddenly appear to flag us down........

...they check our papers.....after a discussion with our Thai friend....we are free to leave...

...we asked him....'Why did they stop us...was it because we are foreigners and it is a foreign driver?'.....

....he replied....'They can distinguish a foreigner from 100-200 meters away'......

...what to say......???

I have a friend who used to drive trucks. One day as he was driving through a place with a small roadside collection of shops a woman standing beside a car near the roadside with the bonnet up and appearing to be waiting for assistance jumped out into the front of his truck.

He used to drive trucks. Now he drinks too much.
