Too many interests within the EU do not want Thailand red carded. Millions of Euro's/Pounds/Dollars are made by Western business's importing Thai seafood's and those business's also employ thousands of people all the way down the supply chain to the shops. What is wanted is proper regulation of the Thai Fishing industry and its processing plants and the pressure will be kept on at yellow card level with regular reporting required to try and achieve that aim.

The EU is just on the brink of collapse. With the UK about to withdraw and the recent influx of illegal immigrants the EU is about to topple over. Threats to the Thai fishing industry will mean nothing. In 6 months time there may not even be an EU. The EU is about as useless as the UN.

I've had a quick look but all I can find is this same report on various sites. Nothing from the EU. Maybe they don't announced these things or perhaps they are preparing a statement. My money is on a minister of someone under them doing the normal thing of putting out statements on behalf of other people.

I think that the Junta deserves much in the way of plaudits in this and other Human Rights efforts it is currently working on, in showing that it is putting in a lot of effort to resolve these issues to the satisfaction of the HR commissioners in all areas it was lacking in. I doubt that much if any will be forthcoming though as they (the critics) are too set in their bigoted ways to give the Junta any credit where it is, without question, warranted.

Tell that to the police officer in the south who had his investigation closed after such a short time and then was conveniently transferred to the area he was investigating and eventually had to flee Thailand for fear of getting killed by the hi-so people still involved in human trafficking.

Hang on a minute, the situation has improved noticeably from before. At least this government is making an effort to resolve the issues.

The fishermen are extremely unhappy about having to comply with international laws and are moaning their heads off complaining incessantly at the stricter guide lines they must adhere to, such as registering their boats and cutting out the exploitation - that say's something about progress being made, surely!!

Not too many daughters will be working on these boats.

I agree with you on this - it is outrageous the way he has been treated for doing the right thing and then being persecuted for it in having to flee to Australia.

This problem will go away as soon as they confiscate the crews fishing rods and bird traps and force them to take vitamin B and eat rice everyday

The EU can't do much research or they would see a deadline extension here only means more time to do nothing until just before the next inspection to make it look good and of course issue press releases on how much they're doing and the confidence that the EU, or whoever, will understand.

How true Kid. Timelines seem to mean absolutely NOTHING in Thailand. Action - other than nefarious ones - is very difficult to observe also.
