Agriculture Ministry runs eight measures to fight drought

BANGKOK, 8 February 2016 (NNT) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MOAC) is driving an eight measure drought relief plan, assuring that water reserves are sufficient for consumption.

The MOAC Spokesman Teerapat Prayurasiddhi has said regarding the current drought situation that the MOAC is implementing 8 drought relief measures to help all affected individuals.

The measures include the manufacturing materials support to cut household spendings, loan payback deadline extension, employment campaigns, occupational training courses, improvement of water usage efficiency, an enhanced water supply system, and other supporting projects.

Presently, water reserves at 488 medium to big reservoirs across the country are at 32 percent with the total volume recorded at 4 key dams is at 3.3 billion cubic meters. The MOAC spokesman believes authorities have enough supply of water for the general public's demand of water for consumption during the drought.

One more measure that will solve Thailand water problems for ever, it called desalinations plants, many countries

are using it and it supply them with abundant of pure water,

So instead of blowing billions on futile water sourcing attempts, or on submarines nobody needs.

invest in Thailand water future.....

Or go visit Israel, a country that only 10 years ago was a drought stricken country, and now it's

self sufficient and with water surpluses to boot......

Thailand has no need to invest in costly, energy hungry desalination plants when it has more than enough annual rainfall to cover it's own needs.

What it requires is proper management of it's catchment areas, reservoirs and water courses along with reform of outdated agricultural practices.

Prayut has praised the efforts of the Department of Royal Artificial Rain-making and Agricultural Aviation teams for "bringing the country through the worst drought." 2015-08-12

But MOAC has no recommendation to expand its DRAR fleet?

How much does a desalination plant cost to build and then what are the running costs per year?

The main ingredient for desalination is salt water.

The main places that need water are up country some 5 to 800 km away from the sea.

How much will it cost to lay pipelines perhaps 800 km and there will be a need for perhaps 5 or 10 of those pipelines not to mention the cross country pipelines or the pumping stations that will be required to pump all these millions of cubic metres of water to the north, north east and central parts of Thailand?

From Wikipedia

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israel

The land area of Israel is about 20,770 sq/km with a population in 2015 estimated at 8,462,000.

The land area of Thailand (Israel is there too) is 510,890 sq/km and a population of 68,072,580

Can you see the difference in area and population between the 2 countries and figure out the true cost of such a plan?

there doesn't seem to be any improvement in water conservation nothing has been done by the government to improve water supplies all we are getting is a lot of talk as usual .

It is a bit difficult to preserve something that there wasn't that much of to start, with due to the previous government draining too much water away. It is not ANY governments fault that El Nino is the worst for many years.

They are improving the water storage facilities and clearing out plus enlarging the drains to ensure a better run off to the dams, something that many previous governments have ignored for decades.

Subs are prestige items they are OK. The water plants cost money and well we need not go into the spending of money by the government part do we?Taboo. There is not much political mileage in these plants and if the rains returned with a vengeance in the future well the government does not want to have egg on their face thats a lost of face and will not fly. Now have I explained why well will continue to muddle along??
