Tinnitus - I have a buzzing noise in my ears

Tinnitus is extremely common, especially as you get older.

However, it needs to be treated by a professional. Go to your doctor and get the issue checked out to ensure that it is indeed tinnitus. You may then have to go to a specialist or even more than one specialist.

Although I am no expert, friends of mine have had it, including one whose tinnitus was so invasive that it sounded like a constant steam train. His was treated adequately. So there is at this stage no point in being negative as long as you get medical attention.

if white noise helps and you dont notice it when you shower,, this is good,,, i have found different tinnitus app that play a variety of natural sounds and white noise and leave it on when i work computer, and it helps alot i also use white noise at night to help me sleep,, at firat the aircon and fan were enough,,, once your btrain accepts this situation you will find that you notice it less and less,, but you have to practice NOT TRYING O HEAR IT... the sensory nerves for hearing that cause tinnitus are located next to the nerves that control stress ,,, so stress will increase the sound at times,,, and not sleeping at first is a big problem,,,you need to sleep and lower your stress and your brain will adapt,,, you will have good days and bad days at first,,,, i can now sleep without the sound on at night but hat took several months for me to calm down,

many things cause tinnitus oxitoxic drugs and haring loss are the 2 main culprits.. those drugs affect each of us differently mine i believe came from antibiotics some get it from ibuprofen,,,be careful what you take and if you find anything increases it find a different medicine or activity

that being said ,, it would not hurt to have a specialist examine your ears and hearing to determine that is is tinnitus and not medically treatable.,, i didi and also found out that my sound is d minor and when i play anything in that key it nuetralizes the sound.

good luck and remember its not the end of the world,,it just aging and if you can learn to relax (and sleep take a pill for a week xanax is good as it will help you relax too your ear specialists can get you a prescription) try hard not to listen forthe sound and that takes practice,,

i went from potential suicide to accepting it and tomy amazement many times and days at a time i dont hear it and other days i do and just turn on the sounds again until it subsides or until i destress again

My son suffered from tinitus for a couple of years then he went completely deaf at the age of 30yrs. Worst part is he can still hear the ringing/hissing noise but nothing else. I have done lots of research over the 14yrs since he went deaf and I am sorry to say I didn't find anything to help him. But what I did find out is you have to get it looked at as early as possible if you are to be helped with it.

It started 1-2 months ago slowly building up and now it reached a level that I can't sleep at night . It's a constant buzzing sound , from I wake up until I go to bed.

My hearing is excellent , so I do not understand why this started. If I turn on the TV or radio loud it is not so bad , but right now it feels just terrible. And I am not optimistic about the future from what I read online about tinnitus.

I've got tinnitus about 20 years ago. Initially it drove me up the walls, couldn't sleep at night. I went to the doctor and he gave me some IV saline solution for a few weeks. I can't remember wether they helped or not, but eventually I got used to it. Now I hear it only when I focus on it. So my guess is, you'll get used to it, too. On a sidenote, I recently saw some posts on Facebook about some tinnitus bandaid that's supposed to work miracles. I didn't research it, though. Maybe it's bullshit, but it's probably worth checking it out.

I've had it for 10 years now. 24/7 in both ears. Best thing I found to manage it (NOT cure it) is listening to custom notched music. Make your own and use ear buds to play. You can spend $5000 + to have an audiologist make it, but you can do for yourself easy enough. Do a Google search on notching music.

This basically starts to train your brain to cancel out the ringing frequency from your frequency spectrum. You need to get a frequency generator app on your phone and use it to match and identify exactly what frequency your tinnitus is at. Once that is known, you use a good mp3 editer and remove this frequency from your music. It will sound the same to you, but with this freq now missing from your music, your brain will learn to not listen to this freq which reduces or can eliminate your tinnitus.

This is new therapy developed by a company in I think Sweden that has had good success with this for many people. I use it and for me it knocked mine down by maybe 50%, but I still have it. Worth a try.

Many good suggestions here , I will try out a few of them . And "train the brain to cancel out the frequency" seems like a very good idea if it works. I will have a look at that frequency generator app .

About 25 years ago I was diagnosed with full fledged unilateral Ménière's disease, really more a syndrome, a collection of symptoms, with tinnitus being just one of the symptoms. Ménière's disease is not tinnitus. Fortunately I have not had a full fledged Ménière's attack in decades, the type where you crawl on all fours towards the porcelain goddess. But the tinnitus remains to this day. Tinnitus varies greatly in severity from person to person. Some people like myself simply get used to it over time, and it does take a long time. Some find herbs or drugs or a change in diet that reduce the symptoms. Lots of information online. And it is worth seeing an ear specialist to make sure there is nothing else going on that might be impacting the ear.

I forgot to say that I also take neurobion (Vitamins B1, B6 & B12) tablets every day. They can be bought cheaply at pharmacies in Thailand. For older folks, B12 supplementation is highly recommended to stave off neuropathy. Besides Neurobion, I also take a special kind of B12 supplement: Methylcobalamin. My supplement supplier is iHerb.com. You can read up on B12 supplementation on their site or on various other sites such as webMD, drugs.com, etc. Older people often suffer from vitamin B12 deficiency. Good luck to everyone.

i got it in one ear due to a diving accident in Ko Tao, some muppet drunk diving instructor put too many weights on my belt and i sank like a brick too fast, my ears drum burst... couldnt hear for weeks, he just kept telling me its water in my ears., 12 years later its no different.... tinnitus

It sucks. Ignore it. It goes away unless you concentrate on it. If you concentrate on it, then use it as the object of meditation. The mind, being what it is, will lose interest, and again, it will go away. Try it. I jest not.

I downloaded the app , my sound seem to be around 10000 to 12000 hertz . So what is my next step ?

Today it was really bad from I woke up , playing music all day now, it helps.

Had mine for over 20 years , at first drove me mad ,but know ive got used to it, because I realised

my problem is nothing but a noise compared with other persons major problems .

To help there are plenty of google play apps just search " tinnitus " . just find the one that suites you .

But i am afraid you wont get rid of it ,only control your mind to except it .

Hi just want to update you on what I posted above .

I recently went back to Uk for a short visit and whilst have a meal of Chicken / Bell Red Green and Yellow Chilli's I noticed the sound in my tinnitus dropped by 60/40 % down , I thought nothing of it at the time , but when I got back to Thailand ,I tried it again and its gone down again , I searched Google and it also says that Bell Peppers are full of vitamins etc and also many say try these peppers to reduce tinnitus .

So the moral of this story is .......... Peppers to you all.

I doubt MSM will work for everyone , it depends on your condition . When you first get it many people will have to deal with it for the rest of their lifes. There is no simple cure. 

 

The first thing you should do as a test , is to find out which frequency the noise is on . If it's not too bad it helps to filter out the noise. Try some of the Youtube videos and turn the volume up .

 

Also your brain will get used to it after a while. I feel much better now then when I started this topic some time ago . I do not hear the noise unless I stop and listen to it. It's still there and it's still sounding bad , but  the brain is filtering it out .

Is a Xanax every night safe? What if you had to quit?

 

I'm going to try my best to sleep without anything....now only sleeping 3 hours a night.  Have to take a walk then sometimes fall back asleep

For me it seems vaguely connected to my blood pressure as when I exercise regularly and keep myself healthy it quiets down, but never disappears. For sleeping I relied very much on the booze for a long time but now I don't need that anymore. Meditation also helped me to come to terms and on the deep level accept the constant buzzing as a part of my normal life. Key point is, if you see it as a disturbance, it will get worse and worse.

What kind of meditation do you use?

 

I want to meditate also, but don't know where to start...

There is some research that suggests this works for some patients. I find this more pleasant than plain white noise.

 

I think there is  company in Germany that makes a device for this. However, it easy enough to make your own sound file with audacity if you can determine your tinnitus frequency. The research paper seemed to suggest this needs to be listed to several hours a day over a few months. It helps reduce tinnitus in some patients. I made my own file and it seems to help in the short term but I haven't used it enough to see if there is a long term benefit.

Of course, even 5 zanax is not going to kill you, just one is not even worth talking about. There is also a difference between drug dependence and drug addiction. One is for sport

I was able to get the sleeping done in 4 weeks, no pills.

 

There's a catch though...requires 1.5 hours of exercise a day...

 

Something else that works is a combination of white noise and nature sounds, like a hybrid solution.

 

Real fan + rain sound on app, keep the app volume very low, nearly impercetptible. That way the Tinnitus is not fighting with it.

 

GIve it a shot, see if it works?

I've downloaded 8h sound of continous waterfall to my phone, to listen to when i go to bed and during the whole night. It effectively repress awareness of my tinnitus as well as other disturbing sounds from birds , car noice etc. My next step is to find some comfortable headphones to wear during night, any suggestions?

I got my Tinnitus back in August this year after a dodgy healing massage around the neck, kind of like a chiropractic massage Vietnam style, 20 minutes after the 12th day of getting this massage in Hoi An I got a high pitched whistle in my left ear, now I have neck pain, upper back pain, so my Tinnitus is nerve related coming from my neck, if I over use or over stretch my neck I get a temporary increase in my Tinnitus volume.
