PHUKET: -- A junior at Rajabhat Phuket University is in critical condition after he was beaten with a baseball bat before being shot down in what police believe was a fit of jealous rage.

According to witnesses, at the time leading up to the attack this evening, Atthatakul "Off" Areekarn, 21, was sitting down, chatting in front of his university's Physical Education Center with a group of friends, including his new girlfriend, who was named only as Bow, a second year student at the same university.

Witnesses said that a white Mazda car pulled up and four men emerged. Among them was a man who was named only as Nick, the ex boyfriend of Bow, who in a jealous rage proceeded to bash Off with a baseball bat.

Hopefully he got further than first base for his trouble.

This sort of thing is too serious for a cheap throwaway line about Valentine's Day.

Look at the combination, loss of face - rage - weapons - mandatory willing friends.

Let's hope justice is done and seen to be done.

So does the ex think he will win his ex GF back by doing that?

Some Thai men are mentally like a 5 year old boy, be careful around them when they are drunk.

Hope the uni student recovers and that the ex goes to jail for a long time.

They really do have serious ego and anger issues. :(

Being dumped, and their ex starting a new relationship really seems to drive many of them over the edge.

At least this one didn't execute them in a shopping center.

An attempt at humor? Brilliant work. NOT!

No, but he did get Off.

NO!!! But: "If I can’t have you, No One else can!!!"

This type of behavior has become so common place...it is a disturbing cultural evolution...from "Land of Smiles" to "Land of Scum"...

Someone showed restraint in the article choosing the word, 'bash,' rather than 'beat.'

Thais are basically cowards and will attack only in groups.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again. In far too many Thai males, emotional maturity stops at around age 10.

sometimes i wonder if you really need that SOME in your sentence ;-)
