Northern provinces remain cold

PHITSANULOK, 15 February 2016 (NNT) - Travelers have continued to enjoy cold weather conditions in the North of Thailand, while its agricultural sector struggles with the ongoing drought.

In Phitsanulok province, visitors to Phu Hin Rong Khla National Park are enjoying the sight of frost-covered grass in various spots where the temperature was recorded at -4 degree Celsius. The stream behind a local community ‘Ban Mai Rong,' which is located in the national park, has also frozen over.

Meanwhile, the inclement weather in Sakon Nakhon province has exacerbated the drought crisis. Residents in Kamin district have switched to cultivating Cana lilies, which thrive in dry conditions, to supplement their incomes.

Farmers in the district have been growing these plants since December last year and expect to harvest the flowers early next month. A kilogram of Cana lilies can fetch as much as 1,500 baht. One household can earn up to 50,000 baht growing these flowers over three months. Farmers said they have made more money selling Cana lilies than growing off-season rice.

If its that profitable why have they been pl;anting rice in the past? what is the expense per rai to prepare to plant thru harvesting of lilies? What is farm gate price of these lilies per kilo? What is the avarge yield per rai? What is water saving vs rice cultivation?

Where do these reporters get their education, training, before being allowed to even submit a article like this? Who did proof reading, authorized this be published and allowed the article to be presented to the public?

When is Khon Kaen in the north?

-4 C, I think they need new thermometers. Anyone here seen a picture of the frozen stream? I watch the Thai News several times a day and previously when there was a little 'frost' it was well covered by every channel. I think a frozen stream would make the headlines, Ha!

Just back from my local pub and they are all wrapped up and saying now as for me I was sitting there with shorts and a T shirt on and just right , perfect weather night and day.
