BANGKOK: -- The Civil Court today ordered the activist abbot of Wat Or-noi in Nakhon Pathom, Phra Buddha-issara, and four former anti government activists to pay 1.4 million baht in compensation to the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) for damage caused by their occupation to the DSI building during the anti government protest in 2013-14.

Phra Buddha-issara and four other defendants who were former core members of the defunct People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), Somkiat Wattanawikij, Chumpol Julasai, Nitithorn Lamluek and Anchalee Paireerak were not present to hear the verdict today but were represented by their lawyer.

They were accused by the DSI of leading hundreds of protesters to lay siege to its building on Chaengwattana road from November 2013 to January 2014 in order to prevent officials from working there.

DSI suit said the protesters cut the main power supply, thus causing damage to its computer systems, and its closed-circuit television system.

The DSI then sought Court’s order to demand the five defendants pay 2.6 million baht in compensation.

In today’s hearing of the ruling, the court found all were guilty and ordered the activist monk to pay the DSI 899,203 baht, Chumpol 365,000 baht, and Nitithorn and Ms Anchalee 184,931 baht — a total of 1.449 million baht — plus 7.5% annual interest starting Nov 19, 2014.

This will be appealed to the Supreme Court or Constitutional Court.

In view of the PDRC occupation of the Government House by forced entry in 2014 before the coup was held to be merely freedom of speech by the Constitutional Court with no compensation to the government, I expect the Civil Court decision will be overturned.

This trud thinks he's a monk but in reality he's no more of a monk than I am. He's just a power mad, hi-so suckholer; troublemaker personified. Just the thought of him makes me want to vomit.

Apart from that I quite like the guy.

Post of the day!

Well done for speaking the truth. We need more like you on Thai Visa.

Why does Suthep get off spot free as he was the big guy and how much will the Mad Monk actually pay out of his pocket?

The bloke in the monk's robe, won't pay a satang, he may appeal, or simply ask for others to pay for him.

Now how about paying back the hotel they forced(extorted) money from because they (hotel staff) didn't want any trouble, remember the so-called monk flicking through thousand baht notes in the hotel while his (thugs) peaceful followers advised hotel staff that compensation needed to be made or bad things could happen from karma, ghost and bad spirits???

As for that other T___D that masqueraded in monk's robe's well as he has friends in high places so I seriously dought he will be paying sweet F/A regardless of the damage done to property or the country, but hey he and his connections have been getting away with it for years and others left to pay the price.

Switching off the power does that?? Must be a computer and CCTV system that is unique to Thailand.

No,no,no,no! Those were all spontaneous donations. Just as all the shopkeepers on the"marching routes " were so overcome with gratitude that they emptied the tills into the sacks carried by the "volunteers" who accompanied the march. All spontaneous donations, and therefore uncounted (and unaccounted for).
