Col Teerapol Thipjaroen, Commander of the Phuket Provincial Police, told The Phuket News today that the order was 'nothing serious'.

PHUKET: -- An order issued by Phuket Governor Chamroen Tipayapongtada over the weekend calling on all authorities across the island to ramp up security efforts following a vague warning of non-peaceful people coming to Phuket to create a situation is no cause for alarm, the Phuket police chief told The Phuket News today (Feb 15).

The missive, dated February 13 and signed by Governor Chamroen, asked for all local government office heads to coordinate with the respective police, military and security chiefs to ensure that precautionary inspections are carried out, and to ensure that there are no black spots in CCTV coverage. (See story here.)

Col Teerapol Thipjaroen, Commander of the Phuket Provincial Police, however, told The Phuket News today that the order was nothing serious.

Actually, its just normal working process to push officials in other area to be more active, he said. And especially with Phuket having lots of tourists around, we are just being careful.

So without this nonserious alarm -

local government office heads will not coordinate with the respective police, military and security chiefs to ensure that precautionary inspections are carried out, nor ensure that there are no black spots in CCTV coverage?

What's next - an alert that RTP will enforce the traffic laws?

The dear Police Commander is really stating this with a straight face: in other words, it takes a terror alert to make officials do their duty. And the terror alert is just a normal tool to achieve this.
