I need to renew my temporary one year drivers licence for my bike and car . I have a yellow Tabien Ban house book , what other documents are required . Appreciate your help

Just your license and copy of your passport.

Not sure why this is in Home Country forum?

However you will also need a medical certificate and according to some reports certain licence centres (Pattaya?) still require a Registration Cert from Immigration.

They will want photo copy of licences and visa page as well as photo page of passport with copies of everything for each licence.

True, you need a medical certificate and if you have a yellow tabien baan (House book for foreigners) you don't need to go to immigration

Why are you renewing to get another temporary license? After the initial one year license (which they are now giving for 2 years), you can get a 5 year (a.k.a., permanent license). When I went from my 1 year to 5 year license I didn't need a medical certificate...only needed that for the 1 year license. I did mine in Bangkok...maybe it has changed or just certain Land Transport Offices require a medical certificate for renewal.

I'm not renew temporary licence to another temporary licence , it will be a 5 year regular licence , and yes you need a medical certificate now, and at least here in Chonburi.

Just got my first 5 year licence. Previously had the 1 year temp licence. I needed a certificate of residence, medical form, copy if passport and visa. Actually got 5 years and 10 months and it expires on your birthday. All really easy.

That is correct and you have to do this stupid tests in addition to all the photocopies, the color chart and the reaction test atlas here in Pattaya . What is weird is they don't seem to know the regulations regarding the yellow tabien baan (House book). Let me explain : When you get your Yellow book you get a thai Identification number almost the same as a Thai person, for my Thai wife it starts with 03-xxxxxxx and for me it starts with 06-xxxxxxx as foreigner , That is the number that should be on the Drivers License and not the passport number. I told them and they did not have a clue what I was talking about. My passport expires 2017 and my licence expires 2021. This will mean that I'll have the wrong passport number for about four years on my licence. Anyone out there the have a suggestion on what to do...

Yes - first I would accept that it is their system and they use passport numbers for foreigners...........facepalm.gif

It is up to us to make sure details are updated - not them.

I changed passports recently so decided to get my licences changed to match just in case of any future issues. Go to the licence centre and explain. They will want photo copies of loads of pages from your current passport and your licences. They filled in some forms. I had to pay some money then sit and wait to have new photos taken.

I understand that they are putting out the rules and it should be the same in the whole country not from one office to another . This has to been according to the current

Irrelevant anyway but for pedantic background please give a reference to the law (or an example) of putting a yellow book number on a licence for a non permanent resident foreigner............coffee1.gif

For my first Thai drivers license (the 1 year license) they put my 13 digit Yellow Book number on it (both the auto and motorcycle license); but when I renewed (i.e., got my 5 year license) they put my passport number on it. Same office here in western Bangkok, just two different clerks processing the license applications at different points in time. And when I renewed the 5 year license late last year they once again used my passport number and used my new passport number I now since I had recently renewed my passport....I also showed them my Yellow Book in order to avoid the residency certificate issue.
