Mini vans and buses still go on the shoulder to pass at traffic lights? Right in front of police boxes? Awwwww....I could go on and on and on.....LOL Hard to really enforce traffic laws with stationary stops. They need to be mobile. I totally agree with you. However, the Thai police don't. They have a secret tactic. It is known as "jumping into the middle of a busy road and ordering a specified vehicle to stop by pointing". They use it often. Usually they will appear from behind another vehicle that they have already stopped just to give the rest of us moving along at 40 kph or more a real jolt. The pointing bit is a bit confusing because no driver is really sure if the cop is pointing at them or another vehicle nearby. And then everybody makes to stop in difficult circumstances only to get angrily waved on by the manically pointing cop. On a bad day, the cop mistimes his leap into the third lane and gets run over. They don't know who they are chasing - It might be a HiSo with a lot of clout and the lowly copper gets re-assigned .... b. If they fail to catch the offendor, they lose massive face....no way Hose 'A' as they say in Spain. Strangley, I was pondering the madness of traffic here again.... What they need is more Roundabouts. The one at Soi Watboonkanjana and Jomtien 2nd road. Causes massive confusion with locals and drivers from countries that never see them (Texas) this makes them slow down, stop on or about to get onto the roundabout and are down to a crawl unable to figure what to do next.... Even if there was a bump, the slow speed would result in minor vehicle damage. Get rid of U turns and have back ward pointing collapsible spikes to stop traffic going the wrong way....and no more fines, just take them out and shoot them.....sorted. I think they see farang/ dash cam combo and think too hard, next. Once I was pulled over on soi kao talo, the copper wanted 300, I gave it to him. I then asked for a receipt. Many drivers approaching from the North get impatient waiting a long way up third road and decide to tear along on the wrong side of the double yellow line to try to reach the green right arrow enabling them to turn on to Klang heading towards the beach. These days one lane is virtually permanently occupied by parked buses so it often becomes like a dual as to who is going to give in first. The motorists in the only remaining lane travelling north or the rogue motorists on the wrong side of the double yellow line. But I can’t believe they are serious about this crackdown because there is already a police box on this corner and quite often you see the BIB sticking their head out of the window watching this ludicrous and dangerous behaviour and yet they do absolutely nothing. Now I know!!!!! The Police learns to handle 1 traffic law at the time. The law they learn for now is "motorists who overtake slower-moving vehicles in areas of double or single yellow lines." Very clever boys. Forgive me if I'm wrong,due to senility!. I always thought that a double yellow was forbidding any overtaking in either direction, whilst a single yellow,plus a dotted yellow allowed overtaking from the dotted yellow line side - providing it's safe of course. If I'm right, then what is the distinction the crackdown will use?. They mention both as thought they are the same. If I'm wrong of course then I've been breaking the law for 50 years. How will they be able to determine that the license plates are fake? The cops are going to carry a list of real plate numbers? Have they suddenly got access to registration details when out of the air-con? real ones have an emblem stamped into them. fake ones havnt. Outside Central Festival there must have been at least 20 to 25 police and army pulling up many motorists and motorcyclists. To my utter amazement there was even 2 police officers escorting anyone who wanted to cross the pedestrian crossing directly outside the police station. Considerably better than taking your life in your hands every time you cross there. I wonder how long this is gonna last with such intensity? There was a highway patrol cruiser (Camry) ambling along the Highway 7 spur this morning and everyone was behaving themselves. Also happy to see that the big bike rental gang that buggered up the corners at Pizza Hut and McDonald's appear to have had their heads pulled in as well. My buddy had just commented on seeing a higher incidence of wheel clamping when his wife called to tell him she had received a parking ticket.
