Emigrate from Germany to Thailand

Featured Replies

Hello expats

Since 11 years I live with my wife 6 months in Thailand and 6 months in Germany.

After my wife now also receive a pension and is retired, we want to finally immigrate to Thailand.

I know basically what to expect, but need information about the sequence of steps:

- Apartment for sale in D

- Deregistration in D

- Tax in Germany (limited tax liability ...)

- Urgently need a competent tax advisor (tax consultant) in Germany

- New visa O

- forget something ?

We are certainly not the only ones who take this step.

For information (like also in German) of retirees / pensioners who have this all behind, we would be very grateful.

Greetings from Khao Lak,

Bangniang

Assume your wife is Thai?

You don't move household goods to Thailand?

You have a car in Germany?

What's your health insurance situation, will it be valid in Thailand when staying on a permanent basis?

Do a thorough medical checkup before leaving.

Pension income is sufficient for extension of stay (65'000 Baht per month equivalent)?

A single Non O is advised to enter Thailand. Makes application for extension of stay easier.

Make sure you keep at least one bank account in Germany, preferably with internet access and debit card.

You can't open a German account when in Thailand.

Make a checklist with all periodic expenses in Germany (insurances, telecom etc.).

Check back all bank account

Terminate all unnecessary contracts in time (household insurance, personal liabilty, memberships).

The two examples can be cancelled without prior notice when giving up address (checking out, deregister).

Checking out can be done some time (a week?) before flying (check with your office).

With the certificate you can terminate these insurances.

If your wife is Thai and you are German citizen, go to the "immigration office" (Auslaenderbehoerde) and request a letter to make sure she can return anytime without hassle (just in case).

Tax implications by giving up address in Germany is not (yet) my field (pension not before 2020).

Endless discussions in German language forums about this.

Hi Khun BENQ,

thanks for the prompt reply.

My wife is German.

Health insurance situation: As officials, we get both "aid" from the state of Baden-Württemberg, and we are insured privately to 30%.

Pension income is fulfilled.

Visa Non O: before or afterwards, when I giving up address in Germany?

The discussion in Germany forums about tax it is not really helpful.

And I hope someone can recommend a competent tax advisor in Germany.

Already many thanks.

It is you choice as to when you get the non-o or OA long stay visa.

With a single entry entry non-o you could apply for a one year extension of stay based upon retirement at immigration. You will need to show proof of your 65k baht income by getting a income letter from the German embassy. Your wife could then get a extension as your dependent with no financial proof needed.

You could get a the OA visa form the embassy in Berlin or the consulate in Frankfurt. The visa is valid for one year and allows unlimited one year entries. It can give almost 2 years of totlal stay by doing an entry just before the visa expires. Requirements are here on the Berlin embassy website. http://thaiembassy.de/site/index.php/konsularwesen-visa-beglaubigungen/wie-man-ein-visum-beantragt
