February 17, 201610 yr Commerce Ministry holds low-grade rice auctionBANGKOK: - Nine private firms submitted bids to buy about 240,000 tonnes of low-grade rice from 64 state warehouses, which accounted for 67% of the government's stockpiles, Foreign Trade Department director-general Duangporn Rodphaya said on Wednesday. Ms Duangporn said the bidding was more than 1.531 billion baht.She said the rice quality in this bidding was better than previous auctions. The rice can be used for industrial use and animal consumption. Many firms would use the rice for animal consumption while others would use it to produce ethanol, she added.The Ministry of Commerce has auctioned off low-grade rice from the stockpiles for the second time. It was able to offload 21,229 tonnes of rice in the first auction.The bidding was worth 110 million baht. So far, the government has offloaded 4.69 million tonnes of rice, with sales worth 50.745 billion baht. -- NNT 2016-02-18
February 17, 201610 yr What good is holding an auction when the surveyors are locking and blocking the rice from leaving the warehouses as stated a couple days ago.
