Thaksin Shinawatra Warns Junta about Thailand’s Economy

SINGAPORE – Thailand’s Ex- Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra warned Thailand’s ruling generals on Tuesday that a prolonged stay in power will only worsen economic hardship in Southeast Asia’s second-largest economy.

The junta, which took power following a May 2014 coup, has struggled to revive Southeast Asia’s second-largest economy amid falling exports and high household debt and critics say economic mismanagement is the biggest threat to its hold on power.

Speaking to Reuters in Singapore, Thaksin, 66, said the junta lacked the vision and talent to fix an economy in disarray.

All the mismanagement, high debts, high cost while productivity remains low, stemmed from Thaksin and his puppets. And now he wants to teach?

Perhaps he should first pay back the damages caused to Thailand from his rice scam policy?

Spending money on ( infrastructure ) the roads , which when you look at the whole of Thailand and to where you can drive on the black top and where upgrades are moving ahead, the employment on this alone is generating internal monies, soon the expansion of rail , and fast rail , bts lines, expansion of both major airports , Rayong upgrade, Tourisim is still generating a lot of foreign currency , so unless Mr T fugitive has his nose in the books or has psyche powers,

I think the man has verbal diarrhoea,

Self-made Billionaires especially if they have come from non-privileged background are super intelligent if not genius. Unfortunately being ruthless is a part of the formula in the chemistry of their persona

He is just a lot cleverer than all of you. Having knowledge is not intelligence; intelligence is what you do with that knowledge.

The country has been on a downward spiral for tourist, ex pats and the peasant classes ever since the 2006 coup

Pity that your genius theory fails the "non-privileged background" test. Perhaps you should google "CEO psychopath" and look at the interesting results.

I would love to see Thaksin's results on the Hare Psychopathy Checklist. But you could try it yourself! http://vistriai.com/psychopathtest/

Mr T was a great leader but it was not the country that benefited it was his business empire, just like the rest of these so called champions of the people .

You are classing deciet and inside trading as being cleverer than all of us, yes he gained the monitary advantage, Now the smart thing for him to do is go and enjoy the spoils of his ill-gotten gains, At the end of the day he and the rest of us, you can not take it with you, what is said in history about the man will be a substantial diatribe.

There is no reality, there are only opinions and each opinion is the reality to the initiator. Right and wrong, good and bad depend only upon ones stand point. There can not be any debate on here because it is totally biased and this will be removed

That is the very point! there are no champions of the people, Regardless self interest comes first

So, spending money you don't have is a great way to fix economic woes?

Don't try that at home.

The Anti T lobby it really huge on Thaivisa, no idea why. Here is a proven leader simply saying there may be economic troubles ahead, I think he is right.

Thaksin was in charge following a landslide election victory in 1998, following the Asian economic crisis, when he did indeed manage the administration which restored economic benefits to Thailand and he retains the admiration and appreciation of the majority of Thais. Unfortunately, there is a large minority of influential Thais that resent that he is also successful in the management of his personal finances.

A university undergrad who keeps up with world economic and financial news would tell you the same. No need for a 'PhD' holder to parrot this fact.

Lee Kuan Yew had once said, 'Many can criticize, but very few who can offer solutions'. Perhaps Thaksin should keep these words close to his hearts.

Believe he presided over the good times as well. The rice policy, as misguided and stupid as it was, is not the only issue. Junta is not business friendly and is heavy handed. It is doubtful the economy will get better under the junta. The last junta had similar problems.

Academics are Chauvinistic bigots who know everything but actually have never done anything. What a shame that new knowledge in Science, Archeology, History and Geology is proving they actually know very little.

The country can only be saved by more genius-level schemes, like his (and I do mean his) rice-scheme, yeah right ! wink.png

Thailand's economy has been sliding since the global boom a decade ago, growth is now merely OK rather than high, but this is not surprising given the problems in China. Most countries would love to have GDP-growth of 3-4%.

There are no quick-fixes, and one should beware of people who suggest that there might be, they usually have their own agenda ! whistling.gif

Mr " T " is correct in the assumption that the Junta has no vision or economical sense , no junta in history has had this gift , as all junta's are Military inspired ideology , except for the limited few , Generals make poor leaders of nations , especially in the Asian part of the world , Prayut - O is now finding that out, the nation not necessarily agrees or salutes when he speaks.............................coffee1.gif .

Most of not all know that the economy is in bad shape and sliding downhill due to a clueless leader and his inept ministers. They just don't like the messenger even though he is right. I have businesses here and it looks very bad and worse if the junta prolong their stay and the crooked charter will not make matters better. I think Thaksin found his voice sensing that the break in rank of many junta loyal supporters and wealthy elites. His timing to speak out is perfectly timed and many wealthies will resonate to his comment.

Thakisn maybe right but he and his cohorts don't have a clue either and his past policies are in part to blame.

How did anyone ever take this man seriously!
