Cassava, Rubber Processing Plants Being Mulled: Official

Japan may import cassava and rubber from Cambodia and investors from the country are considering building processing plants for the two commodities here, according to a senior official at the Agriculture Ministry.

Feasibility studies for the plants are being conducted, said Khann Samban director of the ministry’s department of industrial crops.

The statement follows a meeting last week between Tatsuo Fujimura, president and representative director of JTC Corp and Commerce Minister Sun Chanthol during which the executive said his company was studying the feasibility of importing the two commodities to Japan, while Mr. Chanthol encouraged Japanese investors to consider building processing plants in Cambodia.
