Hello I have a question

Featured Replies

I have a daughter who is 33 years old and lives in Canada. Some years ago she was assaulted and hit on her head with a pipe. To this day she is disabled. Is there a some type of visa that I can apply for my daughter to come to live with me? Her mother is sick with cancer.

If you are on an extension of stay she could get a dependent extension based upon yours.

From clause 2.20 of police order 327/2557

"4) In the case of children, adopted children, or spouse’s children, said children, adopted children, or spouse’s children must not be married, must live with the alien as part of the family, and must not be over 20 years of age except in case of the person hereof is of illness or disability and cannot live without support of father or mother: "

Edit: From 138/2557 documents required for extension

"5. In case the children, adopted children or spouse’s children of 20 years old with illness or disability and is not able to carry on life alone, and in need of father or mother’s maintenance, a letter of confirmation and request for a temporary stay issued by physician from the hospital admitted or relevant state medical institute is required."

Thank you again Ubonjoe. What would be m best avenue? Should she apply from Victoria ( British Columbia) or me applying here in Thailand?

She will need a single entry non-o visa to apply for the extension here at immigration.

She would need copy of your passport photo page and extension of stay stamp and her birth certificate to apply for the non-o. Perhaps at the consulate in Vancouver or maybe better at the honorary consulate in Edmonton.

It would be a good idea to get something from a doctor or such confirming her disability before leaving Canada.

Your daughter should try to obtain a single entry non "O" visa based on "dependency" in Canada. She would need copies of your passport data page, visa and extension ( together with ,perhaps, a letter detailing her disability from her Doctor) Failing that she should apply for a tourist visa and obtain an "O" visa (same documentation) from Vientiane or other nearby Embassy/Consulate.

Your daughter should bring with her a complete summery of her medical records and a letter from her doctor as I believe immigration will expect a supporting letter to be obtained from a local hospital based doctor and the Canadian records will assist in obtaining that letter.

Application for your daughters extension of stay can be made during the last 30 days of the 90 her "O" visa will provide.

Ubonjoe already pointed into the right direction. It has to be a consulate, because the Thai embassies are not the right choice to apply for.

There’s no “complete summary” of her medical records needed, only a letter stating that she can’t live on her own and of course stating the cancer of her mom. It’s very easy to get the opinion of a Thai doctor and you shouldn’t be worried too much.

There won’t be any problems that she can be a dependent on the OP’s visa and once in Thailand, it’s easy to find a doctor who’ll write a detailed letter for the Immigration, stating her mental problems and that she has to stay with her daddy.

Even when you read a lot of bs about Thailand and their laws/regulations, when it comes to serious health issues, Thai authorities are pretty much relaxed. OP, if you need the right doctor to issue such a letter in Thailand, please page me.

And I really feel sorry for your daughter’s and wife's health issues. Nice to see that people really care about their relatives.

Best of luck for your daughter and you. I take my hat off, when I read posts like yours.

Please keep it updated and do not hesitate to send a private message. Life's too short. wai2.gif
