ISOC heeds PM's policy on forest protection

Suwit Rattiwan

BANGKOK, 5 March 2016 () - The Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) has decided to allow the less-fortunate people to live in degraded and encroached forests following the government's policy to preserve forest resources.

ISOC Spokesman Maj.Gen.Bannaphot Phunphien said a meeting between units under ISOC on Friday acknowledged the prime minister's policy on solutions to forest problems. Degraded and encroached forests would be managed as community forests for the less-fortunate people to live, the spokesman said.

According to the policy, there are three types of forests. Encroachment on the first type of forests is strictly prohibited. The second type is economic forests where people are allowed to collect produce. Forest areas where the less-fortunate people are allowed to live are the third type.

Capitalists who had encroached on forests would face legal charges, said the spokesman.
