I have bought corned beef for cooking yourself at Food Glorious Food. Can order on the 'Net and they deliver in Bangkok. You will need to provide the spices/herbs for cooking. Recipe/instructions on the wrapper.

They definitely had it in Foodland on Suk Soi 16 when I was in there a fortnight ago.

In the fresh meat section or the frozen meat case? I shop there frequently but have never seen it.

Tinned corned beef can be found in Tops supermarket and many others for that matter.

If you have the appetite for something that has the smell and consistency of dog food.

What we Brits call corned beef and what the Americans call it are two very different cuts of meat. I presume he means a joint of brisket which is left in brine and then slow cooked rather than the tins of corned beef we are used to thumbsup.gif

What worked for me was printing off a butchers diagram for beef from the internet. It had al the cuts of beef and where they were to be found on the animal. I then found a nice Muslim guy at the local market and simply pointed to the cuts I wanted. I managed to get some fantastic steaks for very little Baht compared to the Farang supermarkets. thumbsup.gif

Since you want to celebrate St Patrick's Day with corned beef, you're probably American rather than Irish ... they have corned beef sandwiches at NY NY, so you could probably get them to cut you a slab to take home and warm up, if not actually cook.

New York! New York!
The owner of New York-style hot dogs specialist Superbdog has extended his range of products to more Big Apple-evoking deli items. Alongside the best-sellers like Yankee Dog (chili, Wisconsin cheese, mustard and diced onion, B120), the new menu includes deli sandwiches like pastrami on rye, corned beef on rye and Reuben, using house-made pastrami and corned beef, as well as mac casseroles (B120) and Burgundy stew (B160). Note that sandwiches are now only available for delivery via Foodpanda and Food by Phone.
G/F, Park Ventures Ecoplex, Ploenchit Rd., 095-576-4026. Open daily 10am-8pm. BTS Phloen Chit. www.fb.com/NewYorkDeliBangkok

I am an American who knows precisely what you are referring to.

I grew up in a milk dairy farm area, and it may surprise you that dairy cows who for whatever reason lose their productivity as milk producers,(usually because of age,) tend to end up as slaughtered for meat.

Either for Corned Beef Briskets or also Beef Tounge, which also is often brined as cheaper Corn Beef.

You may disparage Beef Tounge but is some of the best Beef you will ever eat.

But where you would find such a thing in Thailand, I do not know.

IMA:

Agree with you about beef tongue -- very tasty with a unique texture. Slightly warmed makes a delicious sandwich.

As for finding beef brisket in Thailand, I've bought that from Paleo Robbie in Bangkok. He also sells tongue. (But those cuts are not always in stock -- depends on supply available.)

For people interested in corned beef, brisket is the cut of beef used in corned beef. But Paleo Robbie sells just plain meat -- not brined, as necessary for corned beef. For "corned" brisket (meat marinated in salt) -- to cook at home -- I've bought that from Food Glorious Food in Bangkok.

In past years I am sure I saw some at Foodland similar to what I just bought here in the USA. A 2-3 pound brisket in a plastic wrap with a bit of brine and a small spice pack with peppercorns in it. Failing that, take a walk over to Simon's irish pub on soi 7 and see what he has about. They may make it from scratch or import some packs. It is not hard to make and doesn't take long to "pickle" if you will as much in advance as you want. Buy some beef, peppercorns, bay leaves, salt/brine (plenty of recipes online) let it soak for a day or two then boil it up in the same stuff.
